PSO subsidies: Skyalps starts four routes from Mostar

The responsible regional government has put out a tender for subsidies for the launch of selected routes from the Bosnian airport of Mostar. Skyalps also took part in the tender and was awarded the contract. According to Mostar Airport, the South Tyrolean regional carrier is scheduled to launch flights to Verona, Rome, Bari and Munich. These will be served with de Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft. According to reports, there was little interest in the PSO subsidies, as only Skyalps is said to have applied for the routes in question. Mostar Airport stated, among other things, that it is pleased that Skyalps has met all the conditions of the tender "and has made a very attractive offer for the launch of these routes". The flight schedule is to be announced in the next few days. Tickets will start selling shortly afterwards. It is not yet known when the first flight will take place, but it should be this year. Skyalps could also soon be active in Austria from Vienna and Linz. In Germany, the carrier is considering connecting Bolzano and Friedrichshafen with Frankfurt am Main. Neither Lufthansa nor Austrian Airlines wanted to confirm a collaboration, which was announced by company boss Josef Gostner in an interview.

ANA low-cost airline Air Japan will start in February 2024

The low-cost airline Air Japan will operate its first scheduled flights on February 9, 2024. Ticket sales have been opened for the routes from Tokyo (Narita) to Bangkok and Seoul. The parent company ANA presents Air Japan as a completely new airline with a start-up feel. The company itself has been relaunched and now has its own identity, but it is not a new company. It has been operating on various routes on behalf of ANA for around 20 years. In the future, Air Japan is to be positioned in the market as a low-cost airline. ANA wants to use this to counteract Zipair, the low-cost airline of its competitor JAL. There is also competition from foreign low-cost airlines such as Scoot. The relaunch of the Air Japan brand also means that the previous ACMI provider will be active on the market again under its own identity. Initially, low-cost flights from Japan to Asia and Oceania will be offered. The short-haul routes will be served by the group's sister company Peach Aviation. Air Japan will initially operate a fleet of only Boeing 787-8s. These will be purchased through the parent company All Nippon Airways.

Trend: Holiday rental cars are being booked earlier again

Christmas time as a planning time for the next vacation: Many people used December 2023 to plan their vacation for 2024. And instead of booking the rental car at the last minute, those hungry for travel reserved it right away. The number of bookings is a full 60 percent higher than in the previous year. This is the result of the current monthly analysis by the quality rental car operator Sunny Cars. The early birds are happy about significantly lower prices. Bookings in December 80 were almost 2023 euros cheaper than in the same month last year. "Last month marks a turning point in the last-minute trend that had previously lasted for months," explains Thorsten Lehmann, Managing Director of Sunny Cars. "The bookings from the Christmas period are spread across all months of the new year. Over half of all reservations are for travel periods from March to the end of 2024." Just as unusual as the long advance booking period: the number of bookings. With almost 60.000 rental car bookings, December 2023 also represents a record for Sunny Cars after November 2023. Rental car prices continue to rise. Since October 2023, they have been rising continuously every month in small steps, so that the average price in December 2023 was 483 euros. The good news for rental car fans: Compared to December 2022, it can be seen that prices have fallen significantly overall. Travelers paid almost 80 euros more for their rental car back then. Unchanged leaders: The Mediterranean destinations Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy remain consistently among the most popular rental car countries. Among long-haul destinations, the USA continues to lead the way. In total, over 65 percent of all bookings from the last month of 2023 are for these

New Year's Eve: Nuremberg airport fire brigade supported emergency services

The Nuremberg Airport fire brigade was deployed outside the area to provide support on New Year's Eve 2023/24. At the request of the Nuremberg control center, the airport ambulance responded to more than ten alarms on New Year's Eve. The men and women of the airport fire brigade are usually on hand if an aircraft accident occurs, but they also ensure fire protection in the terminal, provide first aid at the airport and sometimes rescue people trapped in elevators. As good neighbors, the airport firefighters also carry out operations in the neighboring districts. The RTW 79/1 rescue vehicle supported the public rescue service because it no longer had any capacity due to a large number of operations. The airport staff were called upon to deal with classic emergencies such as hand injuries caused by fireworks. The RTW helped in the vicinity of the airport from Buchenbühl to Schoppershof, but also went to Gostenhof and St. Lorenz. The airport ambulance had also been used more frequently in the weeks before. The supra-local assistance is regulated in the Bavarian Fire Service Act. The airport does not charge anything for this - it is a service for the people in the neighborhood and region.

Annual figures: Dortmund Airport with more passengers than ever before

Dortmund Airport had a total of 2023 passengers in the recently concluded year 2.934.516, more than ever before. In direct comparison with the same period last year, the figure increased by 13,5 percent and also exceeded the previous record from 2019 by 7,9 percent. "The traffic figures have significantly exceeded our expectations and confirm the popularity of the airport. At the top, travelers have over 40 destinations to choose from - some of them unique in Germany. With its growth rates, the airport has not only positioned itself well ahead of the industry, but has also broken its own best figures and underpinned its position as the third largest airport in NRW. The annual result is extremely satisfactory," summarizes airport managing director Ludger van Bebber. The period with the strongest growth was the first quarter, with an increase of around 46 percent compared to the previous year. This significant increase can be attributed, among other things, to the fact that traffic volumes in the comparable period in 1 were still affected by the effects of the pandemic. The 2022 summer season was also characterized by particularly strong demand: the number of travelers rose to over 2023 people for two months in a row - an all-time high for the airport. The ongoing NRW Christmas holidays have also gone smoothly so far. With over 300.000 passengers, Katowice in Poland established itself as the most popular travel destination in 385.000, followed by Palma de Mallorca with almost 2023 passengers. The destinations Gdansk, Bucharest and Skopje were also very popular. The reasons for travel are just as diverse as the range of destinations on offer: "Katowice and Bucharest are not only popular destinations for visiting family and friends, but also

Westbahn announces Vienna-Stuttgart

The Austrian railway company Westbahn intends to extend its route network in Germany in December 2024. In the future, the service will also head for Stuttgart, with stops in Augsburg and Ulm from Munich. Some time ago, Westbahn initially extended its main route to Munich Central Station. This was later followed by the start of trips to Innsbruck Central Station, and since December 2023 it has also been running to Bregenz. Within Austria, the Tyrol and Vorarlberg routes are to be increased. With the timetable change in 2024, which will take place in December 2024, two daily pairs of services will initially run between Vienna West Station and Stuttgart Central Station. This is an extension of the Munich route. From Salzburg Central Station, the Stuttgart trains will then make stops for boarding and alighting in Rosenheim, Munich East, Munich Central Station, Augsburg and Ulm. The plan is to use the new route between Ulm and Stuttgart Central Station. In terms of travel time, this is significantly faster than the much longer existing route via the Filstal. Competitor Deutsche Bahn AG moved almost all long-distance trains to the new route some time ago, so that mainly regional trains or Euronight connections run on the time-consuming Geislinger Steige. "We still have a lot planned for the western route. In addition to an additional daytime connection to Vorarlberg, we want to shorten the journey time to the region by around an hour. At the same time, we want to take our next expansion steps and add new direct connections to Stuttgart via Munich, Augsburg and Ulm - initially twice a day from Vienna Westbahnhof to Stuttgart and back," says Westbahn Managing Director Florian Kazalek. Two thirds more trains on the move The last
