We have all been there: You arrive at the pool loungers in a hotel complex in the morning and there are towels lying everywhere that are supposed to serve as "reservations". But this can be very costly for tour operators, the Hanover District Court has determined. More and more hotels are actively taking action against the "reservation" of pool and beach loungers. It is not uncommon for the areas to be cordoned off, leaving early bird towel experts out in the cold. Towels that are obviously on unused loungers are also often simply thrown away. In the case that went before the Hanover District Court, however, this was not the case. The holidaymakers sued the tour operator for a reduction in the travel price because all the loungers were supposedly "reserved" with towels. The court awarded the plaintiffs a reduction in the travel price of 322,77 euros. The ruling will probably result in tour operators instructing their hotels to check the issue of towels on sunbeds more closely in the future, as this could lead to claims for reimbursement.
