Schauinsland-Reisen enters the Seychelles business

The German tour operator Schauinsland-Reisen will also be offering package tours to the Seychelles in the future. A survey was previously carried out among travel agencies. This showed that there is demand for this destination. For the time being, 30 hotels are being offered in the Seychelles and the portfolio is being expanded further. The figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) also show that the dream destination is in greater demand than ever before. Most Seychelles holidaymakers in 2023 came from Germany. 30 hotels from 2-star to 5-star luxury can now be booked on the islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue and the range is being continuously expanded. In addition to hotel chains such as Hilton, Kempinski and Constance, Schauinsland-reisen also has small, idyllic insider tips in its program. The Anse Soleil Beachcomber can be described as a hidden gem on the island of Mahé. In a beautiful bay in the south-west of the island, 24 residential units with sea views are hidden among palm trees. An ideal hotel to switch off and enjoy the peace and quiet. The Cote D'Or Lodge on Praslin is traditional and at the same time modern and is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Seychelles. Cozy bungalows in the middle of a tropical garden, Creole cuisine and the long sandy beach of Anse Volbert delight guests.

2023: ÖAMTC had 687.500 breakdown incidents

The ÖAMTC breakdown service recorded 687.500 operations throughout Austria in 2023. That corresponds to around 1.884 operations per day - four percent more than in 2022. "More intense and longer-lasting heat waves combined with travel during the holiday season led to a strong increase in operations in the summer months last year. And our Yellow Angels were also in great demand in winter - snowfall and cold at the beginning of December gave us the busiest day and the busiest month in Austria," explains Katharina Brezina, head of the ÖAMTC breakdown service. This is also reflected in the monthly comparison: the mobility club's breakdown service completed the most operations in Austria in December (69.620 operations), ahead of August (61.800) and July (61.700). The fewest operations were registered in March (49.000). The busiest day of 2023 was December 4, with almost 5.600 operations. The ÖAMTC towing service was called out around 260.000 times across Austria last year - when a breakdown could not be repaired on site, but also for planned emergency assistance after serious accidents, after incorrect refueling, etc. Overall, this was an increase of more than six percent compared to 2022. At 32 percent, almost a third of all operations in 2023 were due to weak, empty or defective batteries. Ten percent of breakdowns occurred due to problems with the tires, eight percent due to problems with the starter or alternator. In five percent of cases, car doors that had been accidentally locked had to be reopened.

Luton Airport with 16,2 million passengers

London Luton Airport, which is mainly used by low-cost airlines, had a total of 2023 million passengers in 16,2. Of these, 1,2 million passengers arrived in December 2023. Inside the terminal, a new executive lounge and 18 shops and restaurants have been opened, including the Italian restaurant Nolito, the conveyor belt sushi specialist Yo!, the pan-Asian noodle bar Chopstix and the Mexican fast-food restaurant Benito's. The toilets and washrooms as well as the children's play equipment have also been modernized. "2023, the year in which we celebrated our 85th anniversary, was another milestone year for London Luton Airport. With the introduction of the Luton Airport Express and the DART, central London has never been closer. Cologne/Bonn Airport reports 9,8 million travelers

Cologne/Bonn Airport had a total of 2023 million passengers in 9,8. This means that the previous year's volume was exceeded by around one million passengers. Demand was particularly high for tourist destinations. "We are very pleased with the positive development in traffic figures. As an airport, we have prepared very well for this," says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Cologne/Bonn Airport GmbH. "The significant increase in passenger traffic shows how great people's need to travel is. Passenger volumes were particularly high in the months of the summer flight schedule. As an airport, we were able to score points at all times with stable and efficient processes in the terminal and on the apron. To achieve this, we work hand in hand with all partners at the airport as usual." With the renewed increase in passenger numbers, a trend is continuing at Cologne Bonn Airport. In 2022, the airport had already recovered above average after the end of the Corona crisis and welcomed 8,8 million travelers (2021; 4,3 million travelers). A further increase of 2023 percent followed in 11. Compared to the pre-crisis level of 2019, this means that around 2,5 million travelers are still missing, which is mainly due to the sharp decline in domestic traffic. In 2023, the volume of domestic flights was only around 30 percent of the 2019 level. For 2024, the airport expects passenger numbers to continue to rise and, for the first time since 2019, more than 10 million travelers to take off or land in Cologne/Bonn (10,3 million). In the freight business, the airport expects a moderate increase in volume to 885.000 tons despite the ongoing global economic weakness.

Boeing 737-Max-9: Airlines find loose screws and bolts

The inspections of Boeing 737-Max-9 aircraft ordered by the US Civil Aviation Authority have revealed a frightening picture. In the United States alone, loose screws and other quality defects were found on several aircraft. At the weekend, the emergency landing of a Boeing 737-Max-9 operated by Alaska Airlines caused a stir. The panel behind which an emergency exit was "hidden" came loose during the climb, leaving a hole in the fuselage. The pilots managed to make the emergency landing. At least two smartphones belonging to passengers on board were subsequently found on the ground. These are said to have largely survived the fall from a height of around 5.000 meters. The FAA reacted immediately to the incident and issued a temporary flight ban on all similar aircraft. The operators were instructed to carry out extensive inspections before the next flight. United Airlines and Alaska Airlines, among others, found something. Specifically, loose screws and other safety-related quality defects were found. According to the airline, a report was immediately submitted to the FAA and the NTSB. United Airlines wrote in a statement that several Boeing 737-Max-9s were affected by this newly discovered problem. The airline had its own technical staff immediately secure the loose screws and bolts. The aircraft were then declared "fit to fly," according to the carrier. Local media report that at least five units at United alone are affected by the quality defects. Alaska Airlines also found something, but was less specific. "Poorly secured equipment" was discovered in some Boeing 737-Max-9s and the defects have since been corrected.

Eva Air secures major order from Airbus

The Taiwanese airline Eva Air has placed an order for 18 Airbus A350-1000s and 15 A321neos. This means that the European aircraft manufacturer has won the race for this order. Previously, the carrier was hesitant between Airbus and Boeing models. Ultimately, it was decided to order from the Europeans. In November 2023, it was announced that a corresponding letter of intent had been signed. This has now been developed into a firm order. The long-haul aircraft are intended to replace some older models, but will also be used for expansion. The medium-haul jets are to be used primarily in the so-called regional network. From Airbus' point of view, the firm order is an important milestone, as Eva Air is considered a loyal Boeing customer in this segment and only reordered some B787s last year. "We decided on Airbus aircraft after carefully examining the various models in each market segment. In both size categories, we have chosen the most modern and fuel-efficient types that offer the highest level of passenger comfort. The aircraft also contribute to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, which is in line with our company's sustainability goals," explains Eva Air CEO Clay Sun.
