Last year, 39 percent of tourists to Vienna arrived by plane. 31 percent took the train, 23 percent used their own car and the rest used other means of transport. Growth is said to have been recorded particularly in the area of trains. "Vienna, as the medium-sized capital of a small country, can only succeed in terms of tourism and the economy as a whole through its connections to international transport routes. Vienna will continue to be a globally connected city in 2024. Without our two home carriers, Austrian Federal Railways and Austrian Airlines, Vienna's success would be many times less," says Norbert Kettner, Head of Vienna Tourism. "Traveling to Vienna by train is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the tourist sector," explains Klaus Garstenauer, CEO of ÖBB Personenverkehrs AG. In 2023, ÖBB recorded 2019% more long-distance travelers compared to the previous record year of 22. Rail traffic between Germany and Austria is also increasing particularly strongly. "That's why we are continuously expanding our international offering. In Germany, we are offering new day connections to Berlin and Hamburg. The new generation Nightjet will serve the Vienna-Hamburg line as its first destination and will appeal to new customer segments for train travel. In addition, the new Nightjet trains will also be running on the connection between Bregenz and Vienna from spring 2024," says Garstenauer.
