Danger of strike: Lufthansa in a wage dispute with flight attendants

Behind the scenes, Lufthansa and the flight attendants' union UFO have been negotiating higher salaries for cabin crew. The employee representatives are demanding at least a 15 percent pay increase and have declared the talks a failure. A possible strike is now no longer being ruled out. Just a few days ago, both the pilots and the flight attendants at the Kranich subsidiary Discover Airlines went on a one-day strike. Now the UFO union could also call for a work stoppage at the parent company and at some operating subsidiaries that are also subject to the group's collective agreement. The consequences would be fatal, because a few years ago, in a similar industrial dispute, the UFO unionists managed to paralyze Lufthansa's flight operations for several days. The employee representatives made it clear just a few days ago in a press release that affected Lufthansa Cityline that the fronts have hardened. Management was accused of breaking its word, because the promised growth was not happening at Cityline, but rather this had been shifted to the new sister company City Airlines, which does not yet have a collective agreement. The demands are for significantly higher wages for the Cityline employees. Lufthansa calls for a return to the negotiating table So far, there have been a total of 14 rounds of negotiations between UFO and the Lufthansa management. Now the union representatives have unilaterally left the negotiating table - for the time being. A circular to members shows that the latest offer was considered "inadequate". According to the union, it represents around 18.000 cabin crew members of the Lufthansa Group. For these employees, the union is demanding a 15 percent increase in salary each month and a one-off payment of 3.000 euros. The union representatives cannot prevent any strike action.

USA: Passengers sue to be kicked out of American Airlines frequent flyer program

The airline American Airlines in the United States of America has to deal with a class action lawsuit that was filed in a federal court in San Jose: The plaintiffs accuse the carrier of discriminating against certain frequent flyers and closing their mileage accounts. At the same time, the miles collected would expire without compensation. Among other things, it concerns a case in which American Airlines unilaterally terminated the AAdvantage accounts at the beginning of 2020. Around 550.000 miles collected were said to have been canceled without compensation. This is said to have also had an impact on award flights that had already been booked, as these were also subsequently canceled by American Airlines. American Airlines claims violations of terms and conditions The lawsuit filed last week argues that the complete closure of the frequent flyer accounts while simultaneously canceling all miles already collected was inappropriate. Advantages acquired by previously flying with this carrier would have been lost. This is said to have resulted in discrimination against the affected passengers. American Airlines has already submitted a written statement to defend itself against the lawsuit. It is claimed that the termination of membership in the cases pending in court was because the affected members had violated the terms and conditions. The airline has not yet responded to the allegations. Credit cards may have played a role In the United States, credit cards that can be used to collect miles are very common and are offered by various banks. There are always promotions where you get a lot of bonus points just for taking out a card. This could be exactly what a
