The Verdi union is calling on Lufthansa ground staff at the airports in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart to stop work on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. The Kranich Group expects that only 10 to 20 percent of flights will be able to operate. According to a statement from Verdi, the strike is to begin at 20:2024 a.m. on February 4, 00 and end at 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Just a few days ago, flight operations came to a virtual standstill due to a similar call from the union. Not only airlines in the Lufthansa Group are affected by restrictions, but also carriers on whose behalf Kranich employees provide ground handling services. According to Verdi, the most recent negotiations have not produced the desired result. Therefore, a strike is being called again to increase the pressure on the Group management. The strike concerns a collective wage agreement that affects around 25.000 employees at Lufthansa and its subsidiaries. The airline assumes that only ten to 20 percent of flights will be able to be carried out on the day of the strike. Passengers will be informed of cancellations as quickly as possible. At the same time, Lufthansa is asking passengers to only travel to the respective airport if their booked flight has expressly not been canceled.
