Global Airlines: Hifly Malta conducts first A380 test flight

On behalf of Global Airlines, Hifly Malta carried out the first test flight with the Airbus A15, registered 2024H-GLOBL, on February 380, 9. The superjumbo took off again after a long downtime at the Mojave Air and Space Port. The aircraft rose to an altitude of 4.300 feet and circled for around 20 minutes above the airport, which is used by many aircraft owners as a storage area. In addition, this desert airport has also been approved as a so-called spaceport since 2004. The core business of the operators, however, is the so-called long-term storage of aircraft that are currently or never needed again. The desert climate plays a special role in this, as it means that possible corrosion can be kept to a minimum. Some aircraft are only temporarily parked and then put back into operation, others have been waiting for better times or to be scrapped for over a decade. The current 9H-GLOBL was stored because the previous operator no longer saw any need for it. Global Airlines has purchased this Airbus A380. The superjumbo is registered on the AOC of Hifly Malta, which previously operated an identical unit in-house. It was the world's first - and so far only - provider of ACMI and charter services to have Airbus A380s in its portfolio. In the meantime, however, the company has withdrawn from this segment due to a lack of demand. The Airbus A380 in question was originally used by China Southern Airlines and was registered as B-6140. After its service with the original operator, it went into long-term storage in the Mojave Desert. In the meantime, Global

Maintenance: Condor and Lufthansa Technik are expanding their collaboration

The holiday airline Condor will continue to rely on maintenance services from Lufthansa Technik AG in the future. Contracts have been signed to supply components for the Airbus A320neo/A321neo fleet. At the same time, it was announced that an existing contract concerning the Ceo models has been extended. In addition, Lufthansa Technik will support Condor during the production process of the growing A32Xneo fleet with an Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP) at the production site for more than 40 aircraft. Both Total Component Support (TCS) contracts will come into force in May 2024 and have a term of twelve years. They include comprehensive MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) services as well as spare parts pooling and home base services for the required components from Condor. With the newly signed contracts, Lufthansa Technik will provide component supply for Condor's entire Airbus fleet, having already supported the Airbus A2023neo fleet with component services since 330. For the growing new Airbus A32Xneo fleet, Condor is entrusting Lufthansa Technik with monitoring the production process at the production site. The Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP) covers the entire process from the inspection of the first assemblies to the final acceptance of the aircraft and will accompany the process of more than 40 Airbus aircraft ordered by Condor.

The first Airbus A321XLR is not scheduled to be delivered until the third quarter of 2024

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus will most likely not be able to deliver A321XLR aircraft until later than contractually agreed with customers. Due to delays in the supply chain, the first aircraft will not be delivered until the third quarter of the current year. Airbus recently said that it would be ready as early as the second quarter of 2024. However, at the most recent annual press conference, the manufacturer had to admit that this target cannot be met. In a letter to customers reported by Reuters, there is also talk of delays of several months at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. However, the company did not want to comment on this information. Various aircraft manufacturers, including Airbus, are suffering from the problem that components required for final assembly are not available in sufficient quantities. This is referred to as "problems in the supply chain". Manufacturers are largely affected equally by this, but to varying degrees depending on the type of aircraft. This problem has been going on for several years and is also a consequence of the fact that many companies have cut jobs during the Corona pandemic and are now experiencing staff shortages. But there are numerous other reasons. Regarding the Airbus A321XLR, Airbus stated that it was close to EASA certification. There are still thousands of documents to be completed. It is currently assumed that the first unit can be delivered in the third quarter of the current year. When asked how many machines of this type could be delivered to customers this year, the answer was only "a handful". Mass production

Tui and Ryanair enter into a sales partnership

The low-cost airline Ryanair and the travel group Tui have announced a distribution partnership. This enables the tour operator to integrate the low-cost airline's flights into package holidays. "Tui is now entitled to offer its customers Ryanair flights, seats and luggage as part of their holiday packages, provided they do not charge excessive prices for Ryanair products. The agreement also guarantees Tui customers that their correct contact and payment information will be passed on to Ryanair so that they have direct access to their myRyanair account and receive important flight information directly by email," Ryanair announced. This is the third agreement of this kind. Ryanair has previously concluded official distribution agreements with Weloveholidays and Kiwi. The carrier has been taking action against so-called OTAs that sell the carrier's tickets without a distribution agreement for many years. They are accused of charging significant surcharges, for example on checked baggage.

Comment: Vienna wants to become a five-star airport with more bus gates

In recent years, a trend has emerged at Vienna Airport: instead of more passenger boarding bridges, additional bus gates are being created time and again. Although the former B gates in the "old building" were closed down, additional areas were created to replace them. This is continuing with the construction of the southern extension of Terminal 3. It was not so long ago that the B gates, where only bus boarding took place, were shut down. There is now a police passport control zone in this area. Even before that, these boarding gates were rarely used. As a replacement, two additional zones were created in the C gate area where only bus boarding is possible. The first has been in operation for some time and the second was completed immediately before the Corona pandemic and has therefore been available since the terminal complex 1+2 was reopened. In addition, during the pandemic, another zone for bus boarding was created in the basement of the F gates in Terminal 3. During the crisis, there was even "double bus boarding" in Vienna. It has been known for several years that Vienna-Schwechat Airport wants to correct some of the poor planning that was made in the past with the help of the southern extension of Terminal 3, which is now under construction. A closer look at the renderings also shows that there will be fewer passenger boarding bridges in the future. The "cheap" bus boarding Many passengers find it "cheap" if boarding takes place by bus or even on foot across the apron. In irrelevant discussions, there is even talk that only low-cost airlines do not use passenger boarding bridges. That is not true at all, but
