Creditor protection applied for: Lynx Air ceases flight operations

The Canadian low-cost airline Lynx Air will cease operations on Monday, February 26, 2024. At the same time, it was announced that a creditor protection procedure had been filed with the relevant court. "Over the past two years, a lot of work has been put into Lynx Air's growth and expansion to provide Canadians with a cost-effective, seamless travel experience. However, increasing financial pressures related to inflation, fuel costs, exchange rates, capital costs, regulatory costs and competition in the Canadian market have ultimately proven to be too steep a mountain for our company to overcome. It is with a heavy heart that we are leaving the skies. We hope that our vision of inspiring more Canadians to fly will leave a mark on our passengers in our absence," the airline concerned explained the reasons for the move. Lynx Air was only founded in 2021 and uses Calgary Airport as its home base. The fleet currently consists of nine Boeing 737 Max 8s, which have an average age of 2,9 years. The airline is positioned as a low-cost carrier and mainly flies within Canada. At the time of the cessation of flight operations, the carrier announced the following: "Lynx Air will cease flight operations on Monday, February 26, at 12:01 p.m. MT." At the same time, the airline has applied to the relevant court for creditor protection proceedings under Canadian law. The financial resources do not appear to be sufficient to be able to continue flying during this period. Whether flight operations can ever be reactivated will probably depend on whether a new investor can be found or not.

Palestinian Airlines announces “comeback” with propaganda post

Palestinian Airlines has had an extremely eventful history since it was founded in 1995. This history is also characterized by many years of aviation inactivity. The carrier was actually no longer supposed to exist, as liquidation was announced in 2020. Now it is preparing to restart with a Fokker 50. Palestinian Airlines was founded in 1995 by the Palestinian Authority. The first charter flights were not carried out until 1997. Initially, the airline used the Egyptian airport of Port Said because Israel had banned flights from Gaza. Over time, the Boeing 727-100/200, de Havilland Dash 8-300, Ilyushin Il-62 and Fokker 50 aircraft types were operated. In November 1998, flight operations were relocated from al-Arish Airport to Gaza Airport, which was built with funding from Germany, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco and Japan. This airport was closed by Israel in 2001 during the Second Intifada and rendered unusable later in the year and in 2002. Palestinian Airlines therefore had to "move" back to Egypt. Flight operations were then suspended in 2005 before being surprisingly reactivated in 2012. Flights were again made from al-Arish Airport. Most recently, two Fokker 50s were in use for Niger Airlines as part of an ACMI contract. The cooperation was terminated shortly after the outbreak of the corona pandemic. Later in 2020, the Palestinian Authority then announced that the airline, which at the time only had eight employees, would be closed and liquidated for good. Only a few weeks ago it was announced that a buyer for both

Pegasus Airlines has introduced confusing hand luggage rules

The Turkish low-cost airline Pegasus Airlines has introduced new rules for carrying hand luggage, effective February 14, 2024. These differ drastically from the competition, as they are not uniform, but vary depending on the route and the fare booked. Tickets issued before February 13, 2024 are not affected by the changes. These travelers may continue to carry one piece of cabin luggage with a maximum size of 55x40x20 centimeters with no weight restrictions. The new rules, which are quite confusing, apply to all tickets issued after this date. The so-called light fare only includes a small bag that measures a maximum of 40x30x15 centimeters and weighs a maximum of three kilograms. However, this rule only applies to international flights, as within Turkey the piece of hand luggage may be 55x40x20 centimeters and weigh a maximum of eight kilograms. Be careful: there are some routes on which completely different rules apply. Therefore, when booking, you should pay close attention to what is included and what is not. Pegasus Airlines also offers connecting flights. If, for example, you fly from Germany to Turkey and change to a domestic flight, then, according to the company, the rules for international connections do not apply, but rather those for domestic flights. This also applies explicitly if you fly first within Turkey and then internationally. In this constellation, only a mini piece of hand luggage weighing a maximum of three kilograms is permitted. There are differences in the more expensive fare classes Saver, Saver Plus and Comfort-Flex. According to Pegasus Airlines, these are intended to allow you to take one piece of hand luggage measuring a maximum of 55x40x20 centimeters and weighing eight kilograms.

Bees Airline is launching in Romania as Bees Airlines

The Ukrainian Bees Airline is launching an EU subsidiary that is expected to start charter flights from Bucharest in spring 2024. The design of the new company is identical, but the name is different: Bees Airlines. The Ukrainian low-cost airline Bees Airline (without the "s") had to cease its own flight operations a few days before the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine. Background: Due to the acute threat of war at the time, the lessors demanded that the aircraft be taken out of the country. This is also due to the fact that numerous insurance companies refused insurance cover, citing a possible impending war. Bees Airline was able to stay in the air for a few days with the help of wet-lease aircraft, but then it was all over for all airlines, because Russia started a war against Ukraine that is still ongoing. In contrast to its competitor Skyup, which has successfully landed wet lease contracts and has now set up an EU subsidiary based in Malta, Bees Airline has not flown a foot high since then. That is now set to change, as the Romanian subsidiary Bees Airlines is in the final stages of the approval phase as an airline. With a Romanian AOC and Romanian operating license, the company plans to make a fresh start in spring 2024. However, it is no longer using Boeing 737s, but a used Airbus A320. The aircraft with the registration YR-BUZ, which was most recently used by Heston Airlines, is the new company's first aircraft. When asked, the company said that Bucharest-Otopeni Airport will serve as its home base. The first charter flights are to be carried out on behalf of a tour operator.
