Since September 2023, the Vienna University of Applied Sciences of the WKW has also been offering the Bachelor's degree program in Tourism Management in a dual form. In contrast to the full-time form, theoretical and practical phases alternate. The University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication works with the split week model: From the second year of study, students spend half the week at the university and the other half at the practical partner, one of over 50 companies in the tourism industry. They are employed there and receive a salary. It is the first and so far only dual tourism degree program in Austria. "The advantages of the dual study program for students and companies are obvious," explains Florian Aubke, head of the Tourism & Hospitality Management department at the Vienna University of Applied Sciences of the WKW: "After six semesters, the students not only have a bachelor's degree, but also two years of relevant professional experience. Medical: Four-year-old suffers medical emergency on Ryanair flight

On Monday, April 1, 2024, a medical emergency occurred on a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Fuerteventura. A four-year-old child was in need of urgent medical attention. The EI-GJS, a Boeing 737-800 operated by Ryanair DAC, was en route from the Irish capital to Fuerteventura under flight number FR7128. At first it was a completely unremarkable routine flight. However, an emergency occurred shortly before landing on Fuerteventura. A four-year-old child suddenly fell ill without any noticeable warning signs. First aid measures were immediately initiated on board. In accordance with regulations, the cabin crew informed the captain and called a doctor and/or specialist staff such as nurses. The child was able to be assisted while still on board the Boeing 737-800. The captain informed air traffic control by radio about the health emergency of the extremely young passenger and called the emergency services. The medium-haul jet was given priority so that it could land quickly at Fuerteventura Airport. Immediately afterwards, a medical team from the Canary Islands' rescue service boarded the Boeing 737-800. According to an official statement from the authorities, the child was stabilized by the emergency doctor and paramedics. He was then immediately taken to the General Hospital in Fuerteventura. The child is in a stable condition and is said to have benefited from the fact that first aid measures were carried out immediately and professionally on board.

On the first flight from Berlin: German pees in KM Malta Airlines' A320neo

KM Malta Airlines must have imagined the first flight from Berlin to Luqa differently, because an unruly male PAX felt he had to urinate in the aircraft cabin. The German was arrested at the Maltese airport and sentenced to three months' probation by an investigating judge. According to official information, the 49-year-old passenger was drunk. After he ignored the seatbelt signs and wanted to make his way to the toilet, the cabin crew urgently warned him that he should wait for safety reasons. The German, however, did not want to accept this and is said to have become extremely aggressive. A compromise had to be found: the crew agreed to allow him to sit on another seat near the toilet so that he would have "pole position" to the toilet as soon as the captain had turned off the seatbelt signs. But this also took too long for the man and, in his anger, he unashamedly urinated on the floor. The crew called air traffic control and requested that the police intervene. The Maltese police boarded the plane shortly after landing and took the troublemaker away. On the orders of the public prosecutor, he was provisionally arrested and brought before an investigating judge. The unruly PAX admitted his misconduct to the judge and accepted a three-month prison sentence, which was suspended. The judge warned urgently that if he continued to misbehave, he would have to serve his prison sentence and not go on holiday, but instead spend a prison sentence in Malta. The incident in question took place on March 31, 2024 on KM Malta.

India: Spicejet settles debts with lessors

The Indian low-cost airline Spicejet has reached an agreement with the lessors of 19 de Havilland Dash 8-400s and three Boeing 737-800s. All liabilities have been settled, meaning that the aircraft can be transferred to the ownership of the Indian carrier. In a stock exchange announcement, the carrier announced that this includes aircraft that it had previously leased from Nordic Aviation Capital. It has also settled all liabilities to other lessors, thereby fulfilling purchase agreements. This means that ownership of 19 de Havilland Dash 8-400s and three Boeing 737-800s will be transferred to Spicejet. Spicejet has repeatedly caused a stir with disputes with lessors. For example, a Boeing 737-800 was chained up in Dubai some time ago. This was then quickly released again following a court decision. Creditors also repeatedly file for bankruptcy against the low-cost airline. However, these have so far always been rejected by the relevant courts. There is more to the 19 de Havilland Dash 8-400s. The vast majority were financed by Export Development Canada. There was a long-term legal dispute with de Havilland Canada because Spicejet not only stopped taking delivery of the ordered machines, but also failed to make the contractually agreed down payments. An agreement was reached on this. Now Spacejet also wants to have its liabilities in Canada paid, so that ownership of 15 de Havilland Dash 8-400s will be transferred.
