Skyup MT puts scheduled flight plans on hold

Contrary to previous announcements, Skyup does not intend to enter the scheduled business on its own account with its Maltese subsidiary for the time being. During the certification phase of Skyup MT, the group repeatedly announced that it wanted to operate numerous routes on its own account as a low-cost carrier. At no point were specific routes mentioned, but it was vaguely suggested that stationing aircraft in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltic States and other countries would be conceivable. Nothing has happened in this direction to date, as both the Ukrainian Skyup and its Malta branch continue to operate only charter flights and provide ACMI services. According to a report by CH-Aviation.com, this is how it will stay, as the scheduled flight schedules have been shelved. The project is not completely finished, but there is currently no timetable. This could also be due to the fact that demand in the charter and wet lease sectors is very high this summer.

Symbolic meaning: Switzerland blocks Southwind Airlines

Switzerland has now formally joined the ban on the Turkish holiday airline Southwind Airlines, which was previously initiated by Finland, the EU and the United Kingdom. For geographical reasons, however, this is only symbolic, as the Swiss Confederation is - apart from Liechtenstein - completely surrounded by EU territory. Since the airspace of the European Union is closed to Southwind Airlines, the aircraft of the Turkish carrier, which is accused of having connections to the Russian Nordwind Airlines, would not have been able to reach Switzerland anyway. According to a statement by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation, the previously granted approval for the 2024 summer flight schedule submitted by Southwind Airlines has been officially cancelled. This means that the Antalya flights planned from Zurich-Kloten have definitely been canceled. The effects are likely to be very limited, however, as only two weekly rotations, which had been planned from May 2, 2024, were to be carried out anyway.
