Ryanair with 17,3 million passengers in April 2024

In April 2024, Ryanair reported that it carried eight percent more passengers than in the same month last year, corresponding to a total of 17,3 million passengers. Despite this increase, capacity utilization fell by two percentage points to 92 percent. Wizz Air: decline in passengers in April 2024

Malmö: Frost Air now operating under its own AOC

Eurowings is expanding its Hanover base

Successful strike against drug trafficking at Lisbon Airport

Portuguese police have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking at Lisbon Airport. Five people were arrested as part of Operation Ghost Passengers. The operation focused on disrupting drug trafficking at the airport and resulted in the seizure of 780.000 doses of cocaine. In a bold move, police arrested the suspects red-handed as they attempted to collect suitcases containing the illegal substances. Subsequent searches of their homes revealed around €30.000 in cash, a prohibited firearm and various incriminating documents. The cooperation between the PJ National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and the PSP Airport Police was crucial to the success of the operation. Investigators revealed that the detainees were armed with unused airline tickets and intended to collect two suitcases loaded with cocaine from the baggage carousel at Lisbon Airport, which had come from a flight from Latin America. The smugglers' modus operandi was to take advantage of scheduled flights by sending bags containing drugs without accompanying passengers having to check them in through standard procedures. Surveillance footage revealed that two of those arrested, under the supervision of the others, collected the bags and attempted to transport them outside the airport, where they were arrested. The five individuals, whose nationalities were not disclosed, are aged between 28 and 42. Their arrests highlight the growing challenges facing smuggling networks as increased surveillance at sea leads to attempts to smuggle smaller quantities of drugs by air, a tactic that also faces obstacles. Route FMO-MUC celebrates its 40th

The flight route from Münster/Osnabrück Airport to Munich has connected the two cities for 40 years. On May 02, 1984, a DLT (now Lufthansa CityLine) aircraft took off from FMO for the Bavarian capital for the first time. Today, Lufthansa flies four times a day to its major hub in Munich. Around a third of passengers use Munich to connect to around 150 destinations worldwide. Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, Managing Director of FMO, emphasized the great importance of this connection for the entire region. With over 150.000 passengers per year, the Munich route is one of the airport's top three destinations and is the connection most in demand by the regional economy.
