Fraport Group has a strong start to the 2024 financial year

The Fraport Group has had a successful start to the 2024 financial year. In the first quarter (up to March 31), all key financial indicators recorded double-digit growth rates. The main driver of this positive trend was the continued passenger growth at many airports in Fraport's global network. Group revenues increased by 16,3 percent to EUR 890,2 million in the reporting period. The operating result (EBITDA) recorded an increase of 34,3 percent to EUR 212,6 million. Even in the quarter with the lowest business volume, the group result (net profit) increased to EUR 12,7 million in Q1 2024 (compared to a loss of EUR 32,6 million in Q1 2023). CEO of Fraport AG, Dr. Stefan Schulte, explained that Frankfurt Airport was affected by strikes on several days in the first quarter of 2024. Despite these adverse circumstances, the new financial year started well, especially thanks to growth at the group airports outside Germany. In the first quarter, passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport rose by 10,4 percent year-on-year to 12,5 million passengers. Positive outliers included Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera, the 14 Greek airports and Lima Airport in Peru, whose passenger numbers were significantly above the pre-crisis levels of 2019. Forecasts for the 2024 financial year remain optimistic despite the challenges in the first quarter. Fraport expects passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport to be between 61 million and 65 million. The group's EBITDA is expected to be between approximately EUR 1.260 million and EUR 1.360 million, while net profit is forecast to be between approximately EUR 435 million and EUR 530 million.

Teen died on board: mother sues American Airlines

In June 2022, a then 14-year-old teenager died on board an American Airlines flight. The mother has now filed a lawsuit against the carrier, alleging that the carrier failed to adequately train cabin crew in the use of defibrillators. The teenager was on flight AA4 from La Mesa to Miami on June 2022, 614. Shortly after takeoff, he is said to have suffered a cardiac arrest. Although an emergency landing was made immediately in Cancun, any help came too late. After being taken to a hospital, only death could be determined. The lawsuit, filed on Monday in the District Court of the Northern District of Texas, states that Greenidge's death "was caused entirely and exclusively by the negligence, recklessness and carelessness of the defendant." It alleges that the flight crew was slow to respond to the medical emergency, was not adequately trained to operate the aircraft's automated external defibrillator, and that the defibrillator was not even working. "Multiple eyewitnesses confirm that the American Airlines flight's crew were slow to respond and unable to operate the AED device, which appeared to be malfunctioning," the plaintiff's attorney said in a statement. According to the lawsuit, two passengers with medical training -- including a doctor -- rendered aid to the teenager and told the crew to bring the aircraft's defibrillator immediately. When the device was handed to him, the doctor noticed that it had not been properly charged and did not have enough charge to deliver a
