Schauinsland is giving Sundair a new brand identity

The tour operator Schauinsland Reisen, which has held majority shares in the airlines Sundair and Fly Air 41 Airways since last year, is introducing a new corporate design for Sundair. From now on, the airline's entire fleet will be gradually repainted, with the new design prominently featuring the Schauinsland Reisen logo, a sun formed from two hands. The previous Sundair lettering will be replaced by a combination with the Schauinsland Reisen logo to emphasize the unity of the two companies. The new design is already being used online and will also be implemented on stationery, crew uniforms and other company areas in the coming months. The first Airbus A320 is currently being repainted in Naples. Marcos Rossello, Managing Director of Sundair, emphasized the importance of the new design as an expression of a shared, successful future and praised Schauinsland Reisen as a strong partner in the German tour operator market. Gerald Kassner, Managing Director of Schauinsland-Reisen, explained that the new design is intended to further sharpen Sundair's brand essence and strengthen the synergies between the two companies.

Stuttgart: Project for the use of hydrogen in aviation started

Airbus and a consortium of leading companies and academic partners have launched the GOLIAT (Ground Operations of LIquid hydrogen AircrafT) project to research and test the handling and refueling of liquid hydrogen (LH2) at airports. With a budget of €10,8 million from the EU's Horizon Europe program, the project will develop technologies that drive the decarbonization of aviation over four years. The consortium, consisting of 10 partners from eight countries, will demonstrate LH2 refueling technologies at airports on a smaller scale, with a focus on future large-volume commercial aircraft. First test flights are planned at the airports in Stuttgart, Budapest and Rotterdam The Hague. "Hydrogen has the potential to fundamentally change aviation and contribute to a sustainable future," said Josef Kallo, co-founder of H2FLY. Karine Guenan from Airbus highlighted the importance of hydrogen for the decarbonization of short-haul aviation. The project will not only develop technical solutions but also create standards and certification frameworks for future LH2 operations. This is a crucial step towards reducing CO2 emissions in aviation and promoting Europe's energy independence.

Iberia focuses on sustainability with the new Airbus A321XLR

Iberia will begin operating its first A321XLR next winter, a single-aisle aircraft that will enable transoceanic flights and use around 30% less fuel than conventional wide-body aircraft. This innovative expansion of its long-haul fleet will begin with the route to Washington, followed by Boston. With 14 seats in the business cabin that can be converted into sleeper seats and 168 economy seats with the latest equipment, the A321XLR offers a premium flight experience. "With the A321XLR, we are strengthening our long-haul network in a sustainable way," emphasized an Iberia spokesperson. The introduction of these aircraft is intended to increase capacity on existing routes and open up new destinations. The aircraft is also equipped with modern technologies such as 4K screens and improved USB charging ports, and offers free Wi-Fi for news.

Wizz Air celebrates 20 years of existence

Wizz Air is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Since its establishment in 2003, the airline has carried over 400 million passengers and achieved important milestones, including expanding its route network to almost 200 destinations in 53 countries. The first flight on 19 May 2004 from Katowice to London Luton marked the beginning of a success story marked by a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. CEO József Váradi stressed the importance of these achievements and thanked supporters for their commitment. Wizz Air has become a pioneer for connectivity and accessibility in Europe and aims to operate a fleet of 2030 aircraft by 500. The airline has been awarded several times as the most sustainable airline in the world and continuously focuses on environmentally friendly practices. Wizz Air has been active in Austria since 2018 and has since carried eight million passengers from Vienna Airport. To mark the anniversary, Wizz Air is offering a competition in which participants can win flights worth 20.000 euros to explore almost 200 destinations worldwide.

Cockpit association with new president

The Cockpit Association (VC) has elected Andreas Pinheiro as its new president in its regular election. Together with Vice President Katharina Dieseldorff and the newly formed board, which serves a four-year term, Pinheiro will take over the leadership of the pilots' association with immediate effect. After his election, Pinheiro stressed that his team would tackle the challenges ahead quickly. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with international associations and unity within the profession. "We want to create new trust among members in their association and establish a social partnership on an equal footing with employers," said Pinheiro. The new management team represents experience from twelve different flight companies, seven of which are outside the Lufthansa Group. Dieseldorff emphasized the common identity of the pilots, regardless of flight operations, and the importance of strong representation of their interests.

Carinthian travel agencies explore Vienna Airport at the invitation of Austrian Airlines

At the invitation of Austrian Airlines, ten representatives of Carinthian travel agencies visited Vienna Airport to see for themselves the hub's ideal transfer options. The trip began early in the morning at 05:45 a.m. with a flight from Klagenfurt to Vienna, operated by Braathens on behalf of Austrian Airlines. The aim was to test the new connection from Klagenfurt and to learn about the advantages of Vienna Airport for Carinthian travelers. The on-site inspection of the short routes for transfer passengers will help us a lot with sales." Maximilian Wildt, Managing Director of Klagenfurt Airport, emphasized the importance of local travel agencies and thanked Austrian Airlines for organizing the information day. Bernhard Hamela, District Key Account Manager at Austrian Airlines, highlighted the optimized flight times and the new early and late flights, which now offer optimal transfer options via Vienna. Since April 2024, Austrian Airlines has been offering 13 weekly connections between Klagenfurt and Vienna, resulting in passenger growth of over 11% in April. This development indicates strong growth for Klagenfurt Airport in 2024, after a weaker first quarter.

Vienna: Tui is launching Cape Verde charter flights again

With the resumption of direct flights from Vienna to Sal in winter 2023/2024, the Cape Verde Islands have worked their way up to fourth place among TUI winter flight destinations. There will also be direct flights again next winter with airline partner Smartwings. Bookings for the weekly connection from December 20, 2024 to May 2, 2025 are now possible. "The direct flight to Sal has been very well received by our Austrian TUI guests and I am pleased that we will continue the flight connection exclusively next winter," says Gottfried Math, Managing Director of TUI Austria. The flights depart every Friday from Vienna and take around seven hours. Air France relies on new top sommelier for exclusive wine list

Air France has selected renowned sommelier Xavier Thuizat, head sommelier at the Hôtel de Crillon, to design its future wine, champagne and spirits menu in all travel classes and lounges. Thuizat, who was named "Meilleur Sommelier de France" in 2022 and "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" in 2023, will also create a new selection of French beers. Thuizat and Air France teams will organize blind tastings in different wine-growing regions of France to select the best wines for passengers. The new wine list will include fine wines from regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone Valley and Alsace. This exquisite selection is intended to enrich the passenger travel experience. Air France is adding five new destinations to its 2024/25 winter flight schedule

Air France announces an expansion of its route network for the 2024/25 winter season. From November 2024, the airline will offer five additional routes from its main hub Paris-Charles de Gaulle, including three new destinations. From October 28, 2024, Air France will fly three times a week to Salvador in Brazil. This route will be served with the Airbus A350-900, which has space for 324 passengers. With Salvador, Air France is expanding its offering in Brazil to five destinations and, through a partnership with the Brazilian airline GOL, is enabling connections to 40 additional domestic destinations. The Maldives will be served twice a week during the winter holiday season from December 20, 2024 to January 5, 2025. The Airbus A350-900 will also be used here. In addition, Kiruna in Sweden will be served weekly from December 21, 2024. This route will be operated with an Airbus A319 and will complement Air France's Lapland offering. In the US, Air France is expanding its connections to Denver and Phoenix. Both destinations will be served three times a week from Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Previously, Denver was only served in the summer, and the new route to Phoenix will start operating from May 23, 2024. These expansions strengthen Air France's global network and offer passengers a wider choice of destinations in Brazil, the US and Scandinavia.

EasyJet announces leadership changes for early 2025

British airline Easyjet has announced that its CEO Johan Lundgren will step down in early 2025. After seven years at the helm of the company, Lundgren is handing over the helm to Kenton Jarvis, who currently serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Easyjet. This decision comes at a time of transition in which Jarvis will continue to hold the CFO role until a successor is found. Sir Stephen Hester, Chairman of Easyjet, paid tribute to Lundgren's achievements: "Johan has led Easyjet through the challenges of the COVID period and developed a clear strategy to achieve our goals. We thank him for his work and look forward to another successful year under his leadership." Lundgren himself commented: "I congratulate Kenton on his appointment and will work closely with him to ensure a smooth transition. I leave Easyjet proud of the progress we have made and the potential of the company." Kenton Jarvis was delighted with his appointment: "I would like to thank the Board and my colleagues for their trust. It will fill me with great pride to lead Easyjet into the future and to exploit the enormous potential of our airline."
