Germany: Massive border controls planned for the European Football Championship

The Federal Police are planning extensive controls at all German land, air and sea borders for the 2024 European Football Championship. The aim is to ward off potential threats from five specific groups of perpetrators: terrorists, violent hooligans, traveling criminals such as thieves and serious criminals, deported migrants who want to re-enter illegally, and people who want to enter via otherwise uncontrolled green borders. The exact start date of these measures remains secret, but the security precautions include the deployment of a total of 22.000 federal police officers every day. This includes 25 operational units, 50 mobile surveillance units, 45 alarm trains with officials from administration and offices, and 45 trains with young police officers in their second year of training. The Federal Police will be present at the borders, stadiums, public viewing areas, airports, train stations and sensitive infrastructure areas. There will also be a holiday ban for police officers during the European Championship. These measures aim to ensure safety during the European Championships and to prevent possible disruptions or threats at an early stage.

Payments on vacation: FMA gives valuable tips

Traveling is great, but paying abroad can often be full of unpleasant surprises. In the current edition of its consumer information series “Let’s talk about money!”, the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) offers helpful tips for safe and cost-effective payment on vacation. It is recommended to exchange euros into the local currency in the destination country or to withdraw them from cash machines (ATMs) on site, as payments in euros usually offer unfavorable exchange rates. Credit cards should only be used to withdraw cash in emergencies, as high fees can apply. Travelers should check in advance whether their debit or credit card is restricted by security functions such as GeoControl in the destination country and, if necessary, have these restrictions lifted. It is also important to always have the contact details for blocking the card to hand. When traveling within the EU, cash of 10.000 euros or more must be declared to the customs authorities. This and other information from the FMA helps to prevent unpleasant surprises when paying abroad.

London Luton Airport relies on Jaggaer to optimize its procurement strategy

London Luton Airport, one of the UK's busiest airports with over 16,2 million passengers in 2023, will deploy a new procurement platform from Jaggaer from 2024. This move aims to increase the efficiency and value of procurement processes while improving support for local suppliers. The Jaggaer platform will replace previous manual and time-consuming processes with a centralized, automated system. This includes all steps from creating tenders to reviewing insurance documents and certifying suppliers. The airport's CFO, Richard McCord, stresses that this platform will maximize the strategic impact of procurement on the business. The new solution will be fully compliant with the new UK procurement law, which comes into force in October 2024, and will enable the airport to implement a digital category strategy. This transformation will be supported by the use of data across the entire procurement cycle and will result in more efficient spend evaluation, improved supplier relationships and standardized processes. Terry Gittins, Head of Procurement at London Luton Airport, sees the investment as crucial to the further development of value-added procurement. The airport's procurement department has already been recognised for sustainable procurement at the UK National GO Awards 2023.

GOL Linhas Aéreas: On the way to a successful restart

Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes recently unveiled its ambitious five-year financial plan, which envisages a comprehensive restart after Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. This plan includes exit financing of over USD 3,5 billion, the issuance of new shares and the continuous delivery of new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft throughout the restructuring process. The aim is to restore financial stability and strengthen market position. The plan focuses on a capital increase of approximately USD 1,5 billion through the issuance of new shares. In addition, GOL plans to refinance long-term secured debt valued at approximately USD 2 billion. These measures are intended to strengthen the company's financial base and provide the necessary funds for investments. To identify the best financing options, GOL will conduct a competitive process. This will begin in early June and is expected to last until the end of the third quarter of 2024, possibly into the fourth quarter. The process is intended to evaluate various exit financing proposals as well as possible equity and debt transactions. Fleet expansion and strategic investments A key part of the plan is the gradual expansion of the aircraft fleet. Currently, GOL operates 138 aircraft, including various models of the Boeing 737 series. The fleet is expected to grow to 2024 aircraft by the end of 142 and to expand to 2029 aircraft by 169. With SSJ-100: Rossiya Airlines takes on Vladivostok-Shanghai

Rossiya Airlines, one of Russia's oldest airlines, has announced plans to launch international flights between Vladivostok and Shanghai with immediate effect. This move comes at a time when the airline is having to restructure its international connections due to sanctions and geopolitical changes. The new route will be operated three times a week with Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 aircraft and is expected to take approximately three hours and 30 minutes. Rossiya Airlines' decision to launch flights between Vladivostok and Shanghai is of strategic importance. The route had been suspended following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The resumption of flights signals not only a return to normality, but also a strengthening of economic and diplomatic relations between Russia and China. This development is favored by the recent diplomatic rapprochements between the two countries. The airline is thus in direct competition with S7 Airlines, which has already been offering twice-weekly flights on this route since April 2024. Interestingly, China's Juneyao Airlines had suspended its own flights between Shanghai and Vladivostok in early 2024 due to low ticket sales. This shows that competition on this route is intense and Rossiya Airlines has to compete in a challenging market environment. Rossiya Airlines: An Overview Rossiya Airlines celebrates its 2024th anniversary in May 90 and has a long and varied history. The airline operates a fleet of 136 aircraft, which includes both Western and Russian models. These include Airbus A319, A320, Boeing 737-800, 737-900ER, 747-400, 777-300, 777-300ER and Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100. Due to Western sanctions following Russia's invasion of the
