Financial barriers prevent many North Rhine-Westphalians from going on holiday

According to current data from the State Statistics Office IT.NRW, a quarter of North Rhine-Westphalia's residents cannot afford a week's holiday per year for financial reasons. Single parents are particularly affected, with almost half (47,7 percent) saying they cannot afford a holiday. Foregoing a holiday is also widespread in single-person households and among young people under 24. Statistics show that around 34 percent of people living alone and 28 percent of those under 18 do not have the financial means to spend a week away from home. In contrast, the figure for childless couples is just under 18 percent. These figures shed light on the financial challenges faced by many households in North Rhine-Westphalia, which remain out of reach for many despite holidays being an important part of life.

Air Astana expands summer flight schedule to include European destinations

Air Astana is adding additional European destinations to its flight schedule this summer. The Kazakhstani airline will now fly three times a week from Almaty to Crete, with connections to Heraklion on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flights will be operated with an Airbus A321LR and will take approximately six and a half hours. In addition, Air Astana will offer connections between Almaty and the Montenegrin capital Podgorica three times a week during the summer months. Flights to and from Astana are scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays. Here too, the airline will use modern Airbus A321LRs, with the flight time from Almaty to Podgorica being approximately 6 hours and 55 minutes, and from Astana to Podgorica approximately six and a half hours. The new routes will strengthen Air Astana's presence in Europe and offer passengers from Kazakhstan improved connections to popular holiday and business destinations.

Condor and WestJet launch new codeshare agreement

Condor and WestJet have launched a new codeshare agreement that now allows passengers to book flights between Germany and Canada under the code of the other airline. This partnership is intended to make booking and travel easier for business and leisure travelers. For over a decade, Condor and WestJet have been offering their passengers convenient connecting flights throughout Canada. Using the modern and environmentally friendly A330neo, Condor has been serving WestJet's hub in Calgary nonstop since this summer. The new codeshare agreement allows passengers to book tickets both via condor.com and westjet.com and add additional services regardless of the ticket issued. Passengers can now also go directly to the gate for their connecting flight after passport control at more and more Canadian airports without having to collect their luggage again and take it through customs. Condor passengers benefit from seamless codeshare connections from Frankfurt via Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Halifax to all destinations in WestJet's extensive Canadian route network. In the future, there are plans to expand the codeshare to include additional connections from Canada to the USA, depending on official approvals. John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of the WestJet Group, emphasized the benefits of the partnership for passengers of both airlines and is looking forward to the opportunity to welcome guests from Canada to Germany this summer.

Swiss wins at Skytrax World Airline Awards 2024 with its First Class Lounge

At the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2024, Swiss was once again recognized for its First Class Lounge at Zurich Airport. The lounge in Terminal E impressed guests and received the coveted title of "World's Best First Class Airline Lounge". In addition, Swiss was ranked as one of the ten best airlines in the world. The awards are based on a survey by Skytrax, which evaluated over 21 million guest reviews. SunExpress: Once again awarded as “Best Leisure Airline in Europe”

SunExpress was once again named “Best Leisure Airline in Europe” at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2024. The joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines defended its title from the previous year and continued its series of successes. SunExpress was already named “World's Best Leisure Airline” in 2022. Max Kownatzki, CEO of SunExpress, emphasized the importance of the award for the airline's commitment to offering its passengers a first-class travel experience. The airline is delighted with this recognition and promises to continue investing in quality and service. In addition to this award, SunExpress has expanded its route network for the 2024 summer season and now offers a total of 200 routes to 68 destinations in 35 countries. 10 new routes to Turkey were opened, particularly from the DACH region, further strengthening the connection between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and popular Turkish destinations. Basel Airport with new poster on the tower

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Swiss-French treaty with an impressive giant poster on the control tower. The poster shows the historic moment of the signing of the treaty on July 4, 1949 in Bern by Max Petitpierre for the Swiss Federal Council and Henri Hoppenot for the government of the French Republic. Burgas back in the summer flight schedule of Erfurt-Weimar Airport

Since Monday, June 25, 2024, the popular Bulgarian travel destination Burgas has once again been firmly anchored in the summer flight schedule of Erfurt-Weimar Airport. The new airline Fly Lili offers regular flights to the Black Sea coast until September 9, 2024, every Monday with an Airbus A320. The flight time is just under 2,5 hours, which opens up a wide range of options for holidaymakers. Today's maiden flight of the well-booked aircraft with 156 passengers was ceremoniously welcomed with flowers and a photo opportunity for the crew. Chair introduces crew sneakers

Chair Airlines has announced that it will equip its cabin crew with specially developed sneakers. The white, gray and light blue leather shoes have an antibacterial lining and are intended to be both comfortable and functional, the Swiss airline announced. Construction work affects railway line Cologne/Bonn Airport – Koblenz – Bingen – Mainz
