Following the problems at the canceled Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, the Vida union is pushing for a comprehensive security services law. Roman Hebenstreit, chairman of the union, emphasizes the need for clear regulations for security service companies to prevent abuse and inadequate security standards. The union is calling for stricter guidelines for awarding security contracts, regular inspections of companies and more precise requirements for the training of security guards. Hebenstreit is particularly critical of the practice of awarding security services at short notice and at low cost, which can lead to security risks, especially at major events and critical infrastructures such as airports. He is calling for official registration of security guards and stricter access requirements. A new law should also improve the working conditions of security guards in order to address the high level of fluctuation and the currently unattractive working conditions in the industry. Graz Airport is currently experiencing an upswing. With around 500.000 passengers by mid-2024, the airport has achieved double-digit growth of around 20 percent compared to the previous year. This figure not only illustrates the increased interest in departures from Graz, but also the successful optimization of passenger capacity. The increase in passenger numbers is mainly due to the improved utilization of flights, while the total number of flight movements has increased by almost 10%. Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport, expressed optimism about the positive development: "The current year and the first half of summer travel have developed very positively on the passenger side. We expect holiday flights to be well booked until the end of the season. Although the growth curve is slowly flattening, we expect a total of over 800.000 passengers this year." This forecast not only shows the airport's success in attracting new passengers, but also the continued high interest in the destinations offered. Max Schlögl, chairman of the WK travel agency group and managing director of Gruber Reisen, confirms this positive trend: "The bookings for 2024 have so far more than met our expectations. The good advance bookings suggest that this trend will continue until the end of the season." Segment analyses and growth in holiday air traffic The strong growth in holiday air traffic is particularly striking.
