AUA releases Linz-Frankfurt for booking

Brussels Airlines Airbus A319 makes emergency landing in Lyon after bird strike

On August 16, 2024, a Brussels Airlines Airbus A319, flight SN3598, was forced to make an emergency landing at Lyon Satolas Airport following a bird strike during departure from Marseille-Provence Airport. The aircraft was en route from Marseille to Brussels when the incident occurred. The pilots immediately informed air traffic control and flew a holding pattern south of Lyon before landing safely at Lyon Airport. After landing, it was found that both of the aircraft's engines were slightly damaged. Brussels Airlines confirmed the incident and stated that the 136 passengers and five crew members were accommodated in nearby hotels. The journey to Brussels is expected to continue on Saturday. The incident resulted in no injuries and a detailed examination of the aircraft is being carried out to rule out further damage.

Concertgoers at the Ernst Happel Stadium must expect traffic disruptions

Stadium in the Prater will be the centre of large crowds as the band Coldplay is giving a total of four concerts there. The ÖAMTC is warning of significant traffic disruptions and possible road closures in the area around the stadium. The closures affect Meiereistrasse between Vorgartenstrasse and Pierre-de-Coubertain-Platz and Stadionallee between Lusthausstrasse and the stadium. Due to the expected crowds, a closure of Stadionallee on the evenings of the concerts could also be considered. At the weekend, the Prater passage and adjacent streets are already closed to traffic. The ÖAMTC recommends that concertgoers use the U2 subway line to avoid traffic jams. Delays are expected from the afternoon hours on Handelskai, Engerthstrasse and Vorgartenstrasse as well as on the Südost Tangente (A23). Bathers at the Stadionbad should also expect delays when leaving.

Vienna Airport increases in the first half of 2024

Vienna Airport recorded growth in both passenger numbers and financial indicators in the first half of 2024. With 18,7 million passengers in the Vienna Airport Group and a 14,1% increase in revenue to EUR 488,4 million, the airport is continuing its successful course. July 2024 also brought new records, with the pre-crisis level of 2019 being exceeded for the first time. The positive developments underline the airport's strategic investments and expansion plans, which are strengthening its position as a major hub in Europe. In the period from January to June 2024, the Vienna Airport Group, which includes the airports in Malta and Košice in addition to the Vienna site, welcomed a total of 18.721.110 passengers. This represents an increase of 10,1% compared to the same period last year. At the Vienna site itself, 14.386.331 passengers were handled, an increase of 7,9%. The financial figures reflect this growth: revenue increased by 14,1% to EUR 488,4 million, EBITDA improved by 15,5% to EUR 204,9 million and EBIT increased by 23,2% to EUR 138,7 million. The result for the period increased by 31,1% and reached EUR 108,4 million. These results are due to the positive operating development as well as a clearly positive financial result, which was favored by successful debt relief measures and high interest income.
