First airline-independent flight attendant course in Austria: a career springboard into aviation?

The flight attendant profession is a dream job for many. It combines travel, responsibility and international contact. But the path to the cabin of an aircraft has so far been closely tied to the respective airline. On October 14, 2024, WIFI Vienna will launch its first airline-independent training course for flight attendants, which is intended to make it easier to enter the aviation industry. This course, which is run in cooperation with Punitz Flug, not only offers in-depth theoretical and practical training, but also the EU-wide, state-run flight attendant license. The need for qualified cabin crew is growing with the increasing number of flight connections worldwide, and the WIFI course sets an important milestone on the Austrian education market. Revolution in flight attendant services: Airline-independent training Until now, training for flight attendants in Austria was carried out directly by the airlines. Applying to an airline was the first step, followed by specific training and internal training. However, this path had disadvantages: interested parties first had to decide on an airline and were only trained after successful acceptance. The new course at WIFI Vienna breaks with this tradition and offers a solid basic education that gives participants the freedom to choose an airline afterwards. The concept is unique in Austria and responds to the increasing need for qualified flight personnel, which is fuelled by the growing number of flight connections worldwide. Safety as the top priority The role of a flight attendant is no longer limited to looking after passengers. Safety on board is the main focus. Flight attendants are often the first and most important point of contact in the event of an emergency, be it

Air India Express says goodbye to Business Class

The aviation industry is constantly undergoing changes and adjustments, especially in the highly competitive low-cost airline segment. One of the most recent developments concerns Air India Express, a subsidiary of Air India, which has decided to remove business class cabins from its fleet. This decision is not only a logical step in terms of increasing efficiency and adapting to the airline's business model, but also highlights the challenges and opportunities that airlines have to face in a changing market environment. Background: Business class as a temporary solution Air India Express, which primarily operates as a low-cost airline, originally had business class seats in parts of its fleet consisting of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. These aircraft were ordered by other airlines, which later canceled their orders. In order to put these aircraft into operation quickly and save time and costs for conversion, Air India Express decided to keep the business class seats temporarily. An unnamed representative of the airline explained in a report in the Indian daily newspaper "Indian Express" that the business class seats do not fit the business model of a low-cost airline. The original idea of offering a premium product was chosen pragmatically in order to make the aircraft available quickly. Now, however, the time has come to completely change the original concept to a pure economy layout. Efficiency as the top priority Competition in the low-cost airline segment is extremely tough. Airlines such as Ryanair and EasyJet have shown us how: costs must be kept as low as possible in order to offer competitive ticket prices. In this context, business class does not fit the Air India Express model. The small proportion of business travelers, the
