100 years of Stuttgart Airport: Maeckes writes birthday anthem

For the 100th anniversary of Stuttgart Airport, rapper and music producer Maeckes has released a special tribute. The artist from Kornwestheim, known as part of the hip-hop band "Die Orsons", turned one of his solo hits into the anthem "jettin' stuggi with it". In the song, he mentions local references such as Leinfelden-Echterdingen and the "Manfred Rommel Airport" and describes the experience at the airport with humorous lyrics. As early as July 2024, the airport was transformed into a film set: around 100 airport employees danced in a Eurowings plane and at various locations in the terminal while filming the music video. The airport fire brigade and travelers also spontaneously took part in the action. Maeckes, who is also active as a producer and graphic designer, has celebrated success in the German charts with his band "Die Orsons" and regularly works on projects in his hometown of Stuttgart. Most recently he wrote texts for the upcoming production “The Red Whale” at the Stuttgart Opera.

22nd Aviation Symposium: Focus on sustainability and competitiveness

At the 22nd Aviation Symposium of Aviation Industry Austria (AIA) in Vienna, the future of the aviation industry was characterized by sustainability and competitiveness. Around 150 participants from business, aviation and tourism discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, particularly with regard to climate-friendly innovations. A key topic was the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to promote climate-neutral regional air traffic, which is seen as a growth engine for regional locations. An important item on the symposium's agenda was the change at the top of the association: Robert Machtlinger, CEO of FACC AG, handed over the chairmanship of the AIA to Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, after a two-year term in office. Experts such as Barbara Thaler, President of the Tyrol Chamber of Commerce, and Francesco Sciortino, COO of Austrian Airlines, emphasized the need for political support to increase the availability of sustainable fuels and thus achieve the EU climate targets. The symposium highlighted the role of the Austrian aviation industry as an economic engine and the associated political and structural framework conditions required for sustainable growth.

SpiceJet and ELFC: Settlement paves way for growth of Indian low-cost airline

Indian low-cost airline SpiceJet has achieved a significant victory in an ongoing legal dispute with Engine Lease Finance Corporation (ELFC). Both parties agreed to a settlement to resolve a dispute over unpaid engine rentals originally amounting to USD 16,7 million. With this agreement, which SpiceJet describes as a "significant step" for the future direction of the company, the airline is creating the necessary space to push ahead with its ambitious growth plans while cleaning up its financial legacy. The background to the dispute: Engine rentals in focus The dispute between SpiceJet and ELFC, an internationally renowned aircraft leasing provider, revolved around unpaid rentals for eight engines leased by ELFC to the Indian airline. The total amount of outstanding payments, including interest and rental fees, amounted to USD 16,7 million. Such leases are common practice in the aviation industry, as airlines like SpiceJet often rely on leasing parts of aircraft or entire aircraft to keep their operations running without having to make large initial investments. However, SpiceJet, which has been struggling financially in recent years, was unable to make payments to ELFC on time, leading to an intense legal battle between the two companies. Thanks to the settlement now reached - for an undisclosed amount but less than the $16,7 million demanded - SpiceJet can put this conflict behind it. Settlement as a milestone on the way to new growth In an official statement, SpiceJet stressed that the settlement with ELFC was an essential step to keep its operations running smoothly.

Germany: ADV calls on government to correct aviation course

The German aviation industry is at a crossroads: high location costs, an air traffic tax that continues to rise, and complex regulations are threatening Germany's competitiveness as a central European aviation location. The airport association ADV (Association of German Commercial Airports) is sounding the alarm and calling for urgently needed relief for airlines and airports. Without an immediate course correction, the association says, Germany risks falling further behind in European air traffic. Germany's position in air traffic under pressure Ralph Beisel, Managing Director of the ADV, sums up the situation: "German airports are still missing 15 percent of travelers compared to the pre-coronavirus period." While air traffic in other European countries is slowly returning to pre-crisis levels, Germany is still struggling with significant declines in passenger numbers. A problem that is not only attributable to the pandemic: high taxes and fees are also placing a massive burden on the aviation location. A worrying trend can be seen from the airport association's current figures. In the past five years, German airports have lost a total of 308 routes. In 2023, there were only 2.075 scheduled flights - far fewer than in the years before the pandemic and even fewer than a decade ago. "Germany as an aviation location is being set back by a decade due to misguided policies," said Beisel. This development not only endangers the range of flight connections, but also international competitiveness. The international comparison: Germany is losing ground While countries like Sweden are abolishing their air traffic taxes as part of a well-considered reform policy - the Swedish ticket tax will be abolished without replacement from 2025 - Germany is taking the opposite path. In this country, air traffic taxes have been increased several times. This additional financial burden
