Tyrolean tourism in the 2024 summer season: challenges and confidence for the future

Tyrol, one of the leading tourism destinations in Austria, draws a mixed conclusion after the 2024 summer season. Although there was a slight decline in overnight stays, the industry remains stable, especially in terms of added value. At the same time, tourism is confident about the upcoming winter season, which begins on November 1, 2024. However, the complex framework conditions - in particular the changeable weather and the increasing short-term nature of bookings - presented businesses with considerable challenges. The summer season, which officially ends at the end of October, recorded only a minimal decline despite adverse circumstances. According to initial calculations by the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI), overnight stays in the months May to September amounted to around 20,3 million - a decrease of 0,9 percent compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the average length of stay of guests remains stable at 3,6 days. These figures reflect the high importance of tourism in Tyrol, despite challenges such as the repeatedly mixed weather periods, which were particularly noticeable in September. Mario Gerber, Tyrolean Minister for Tourism, nevertheless draws a positive conclusion: "We had strong demand last year and the best summer result since 1992. We are therefore satisfied that we can almost maintain this very good result this summer." The added value of tourism also remains stable: the industry generated 2,4 billion euros in summer 2024, which represents a minimal decline of 0,1 percent when inflation is taken into account. Challenges of short-termism and cost increases The increasing short-term nature of bookings and cancellations is particularly stressful for companies, as Alois Rainer, head of the tourism and leisure industry in the

TJS Malta issues Citation XLS+, Tyrolean Jet & Service takes over the fleet

TJS Malta recently decided to retire the only Citation XLS+. However, this move is not the end for the aircraft type, as it will continue to operate under the Austrian certificate of Tyrolean Jet & Service. The move is seen by experts as part of a strategic restructuring within business airlines. The Citation XLS+, a widely used business jet, completed its last flight under the Maltese registration 9H-GRM on July 29, 2024 near Zurich. The aircraft was then exported to the United States on August 24, 2024, where it received its new registration as N933MR. The journey took it via several international airports, including Glasgow Prestwick, Reykjavik Keflavik and Vancouver International, before finally landing at Pittsburgh International Airport on August 27, 2024. There it entered service three days later, on August 30, under the Aircraft Management Group's new operator code RVJ, and immediately completed three test flights. CH-Aviation.com was the first to report on the change at TJS. The Citation XLS+ has a remarkable history. The 11,8-year-old aircraft was originally delivered to the German company ProAir Aviation (PAV) and had an eventful registration history that took it to Slovenia and Austria, among other places. The Tyrolean Jet & Service fleet, which is currently being taken over by Gama Aviation (GMA, Farnborough), now includes a total of seven aircraft registered in Austria, including several Citation models and other high-class jets. One aspect of the fleet policy is the fact that the Citation XLS+ was never operated under the Maltese Air Operator Certificate with the codes “TYJ” or “TJS”, which
