On October 28, 2024, Air India announced that it has received approval from India's civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), to internally modify the interiors of its aircraft. This significant achievement, which makes the airline the first in India to receive a Design Organisation Approval (DOA) under CAR 21 regulations, is seen as a step towards improving the fleet and increasing customer satisfaction. A turning point for the Indian aviation industry The approval to internally modify aircraft interiors is a critical milestone for Air India, especially in a rapidly evolving aviation sector. According to Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, this approval not only demonstrates the airline's capabilities to maintain its fleet but also its commitment to optimising the customer experience through improved interior design. Romania: New law to prevent drone attacks in airspace

The Romanian Ministry of Defense has proposed a new law that would give the country's armed forces the authority to attack and, if necessary, destroy drones that enter Romanian airspace without authorization. This decision is a direct response to the increasing security concerns Romania has due to regional tensions, in particular Russian aggression against Ukraine. With the law, the Romanian government aims to address the growing threats posed by drones and other military aircraft and strengthen national sovereignty and security. The background to the legislative initiative The decision to pass this law is not an isolated incident, but part of a broader context that reflects geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe. The security situation in the region has changed dramatically in recent years, especially since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. This means that Romania faces increased threats as military activities and drone operations move ever closer to the Romanian border. An example of this is the incident in September 2023, when the remains of a Russian Shahed-136 kamikaze drone were found near the Romanian border. This drone had been used in attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and alerted the Romanian authorities. The Romanian Minister of Defense Angel Tîlvăr expressed concern after this incident and clarified that Romania is at increased risk of such attacks due to its geographical location. Contents of the draft law The proposed law provides for a number of measures that can be taken against unauthorized intruders. This includes identifying the position and radio connection of the aircraft in question, as well as intercepting and, if necessary,

Airbus also affected: IG Metall increases pressure on employers

The IG Metall union has called for widespread warning strikes in the metal and electrical industries, particularly at the Airbus site in Bremen. From midnight, employees are to stop work to draw attention to the urgent demands for higher wages and better working conditions. With these measures, the union wants to increase the pressure in the current wage dispute and point out the need for a fair wage for employees. Background and demands of IG Metall IG Metall is demanding a wage increase of seven percent for a period of twelve months and an increase in the remuneration of trainees by 170 euros. These demands must be seen in the context of rising living costs and inflation, which are putting a heavy strain on employees' purchasing power. The employers' side, on the other hand, made an offer in the second round of negotiations that only provides for a wage increase of 1,7 percent from mid-2025 and a further 1,9 percent a year later. The increase in training remuneration was also only promised as a "disproportionate increase", without giving any concrete figures. This unequal exchange has angered the union, which is demanding that wages be adjusted to reflect economic reality and the increased cost of living. "We are fighting for the employees and for fair wages. The time for compromise is over," said a spokesman for IG Metall. The warning strikes are a sign of the discontent of the employees, who feel that they are not sufficiently valued in the current situation. Planned actions and the course of the negotiations The warning strikes, which are to take place during the course of Wednesday, are not limited to Bremen.

Southwest Airlines on the way to sustainable onboard service

At a time when environmental awareness is becoming increasingly important in the transport sector, Southwest Airlines is sending a strong signal with its "Nonstop to Net Zero" strategy. The US airline plans to eliminate single-use plastic in its in-flight service by 2030. To this end, it recently introduced innovative in-flight items: cold drink cups made of bamboo and paper and stirrers made of certified birch wood. In the press release of October 28, 2024, the company announced that this measure would reduce annual single-use plastic consumption by 1,5 million pounds. The new cup, which is made of 75% bamboo and 25% paper, is 93% plastic-free, with only the polyethylene coating providing the necessary stability. Bamboo, known for its rapid growth, is considered particularly environmentally friendly. Combined with FSC-certified wood for stirrers, Southwest Airlines demonstrates that sustainability and functionality can go hand in hand. These steps are part of a broader environmental protection plan that aims to reduce single-use plastics by half by 2025 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The airline is also taking steps to prevent food waste and reduce overall waste on flights, particularly on popular routes to and from Hawaii, where a new snack offering is designed to help reduce single-use plastics. Southwest Airlines is receiving recognition for this ongoing commitment, with collaboration with various suppliers and environmental partners supporting the development towards zero-waste aviation. Above all, Southwest Airlines is focusing on sustainable alternatives and plans to introduce environmentally friendly fuel, so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), by 2030 in order to sustainably improve its carbon footprint. Southwest Airlines ranks

Hawaiian Airlines presents new “Vaiana 2” special paint job

Hawaiian Airlines is surprising fans of the Disney film “Moana” with a new special livery for several aircraft, inspired by the upcoming animated musical “Moana 2”. This initiative highlights the cultural and historical significance of Polynesian seafaring and reflects the airline’s commitment to bringing Hawaiian tradition into the modern age. The new design, which features well-known characters such as Moana and Maui, was unveiled on an Airbus A330. But this special livery is just the beginning: In November, an Airbus A321neo and a Boeing 717 will also be presented in the “Moana 2” style. The theme of the new film fits seamlessly into the airline’s branding and at the same time symbolizes the heritage of Polynesian seafaring, which is honored by the aircraft names Hōkūleʻa, Koa and ʻElepaio. These names refer to traditional navigation methods and mythical symbols of the Polynesian people who have traversed the oceans for centuries. To celebrate the partnership, Hawaiian Airlines is also offering passengers on Moana 2 flights special souvenirs to add a touch of adventure and nostalgia to the journey. Additionally, a contest called Navigate Your Own Adventure will be held, with winners able to earn an impressive 500.000 HawaiianMiles, an attractive incentive for frequent flyers and Disney fans alike. The special liveries are part of a comprehensive marketing campaign in partnership with Disney that incorporates Polynesian heritage both artistically and thematically. The Moana 2-themed aircraft will be used on domestic and international routes to bring Hawaiian culture and Disney magic to a global audience. In addition to the liveries, the overhead bins and in-flight entertainment media will also feature film references. Moana

"Palermo": Mediterranean fine dining in Almaty

The “Palermo” restaurant at Panfilov St 98 in the Kazakh metropolis of Almaty serves Italian specialties. You notice as soon as you enter that the restaurant is part of the upscale gastronomy. The large and well-maintained freshwater aquariums, which are located near the entrance on the right-hand side, are certainly a real eye-catcher. They are large and house various ornamental fish species, such as cichlids. Incidentally, these animals do not end up on the plate, even if you ask. One positive thing is that the tanks appear to be very well-maintained and the fish have been carefully chosen. None of the aquariums are dirty or overpopulated in any way. Wines from France and Italy dominate the menu. The extremely friendly staff quickly show you a table and shortly afterwards make the first recommendations for drinks. Local wines from Kazakhstan are hardly on the menu, but there is an extremely extensive selection from Italy and France. It is not surprising that wines from these countries are stocked, as the focus is on Mediterranean specialties. Incidentally, numerous wines are also displayed on wine racks, which give the restaurant a special visual touch. Of course not all of them, because not every one is suitable for such a display. Certain mussels are served completely fresh and can even be selected individually by the guest, as they are in a saltwater aquarium. This means that you know in advance what or who you will soon be served on your plate. This “storage facility” is also in absolutely perfect condition in terms of cleanliness. Although the “Palermo” is located in the upscale gastronomy sector,
