Local transport: 109 new Cityjet double-decker trains for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland

In a major mobility project, the states of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and the Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR), have announced the purchase of 109 Cityjet double-decker trains from Stadler. This investment is intended to significantly improve local public transport in the eastern region from December 2025 and, in particular, speed up commuter traffic. The new generation of trains will not only offer shorter travel times and higher capacities, but will also provide well-thought-out comfort features for passengers. This project is part of a comprehensive mobility concept and represents a decisive step for public transport in the region. More frequent service and increased capacity One of the main objectives of the new Cityjet double-decker trains is to improve capacity on the highly frequented commuter routes in the eastern region. Thanks to flexible train design - 89 four-car and 20 six-car sets - the train lengths can be adjusted as required to better cover peak times. The Cityjets offer more seats and a spacious interior thanks to their double-decker design, which will give passengers a more comfortable journey. This increased capacity will be complemented by the use of a modern train control system (ETCS), which will enable more frequent service. Public transport passenger numbers have been rising steadily for years, and the expansion of local transport is essential to ensure smooth traffic flow and make commuter journeys more efficient. Shorter journey times and modern equipment The new trains will reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and will therefore significantly reduce journey times - an improvement compared to the current trains, which only reach up to 140 km/h. This time saving will be of great benefit to commuters who travel between

Salt&Honey: Viennese restaurant offers culinary homage to the cuisine of Southern Europe

In the middle of Vienna's Getreidemarkt, a new gastronomic attraction has quickly established itself: the Salt&Honey restaurant. Connected to the House of Ble Hotel, this restaurant creates an exclusive culinary experience not only for hotel guests but also for gourmets. The diverse flavors and traditions of southern Europe, especially Portugal, are at the heart of the menu and create a taste journey that impresses with both tradition and innovation. The Salt&Honey menu impresses with a sophisticated selection of dishes that combine both authentic and modern influences. Highlights include innovative interpretations such as the "Feta Brûlée" and the "Bacalhau à Brás" - a Portuguese national dish based on cod that shines with its simplicity and the skilful combination of flavors. Equally remarkable is the port wine duck, which is accompanied by homemade gnocchi and is characterized by an intense, harmonious fullness of flavor. This dish is an example of how traditional ingredients are reinterpreted with modern accents to bring the essence of southern European cuisine to the table. The dessert selection is also particularly praised. Here, Salt&Honey brings out the taste nuances of southern Europe through the "port wine delight" and a delicately melting chocolate mousse, in which the spice and sweetness that characterize the house's cuisine come to full fruition. The refinement with salt as a flavor enhancer and honey to round it off gives the dishes an extraordinary depth and takes them to a new level. A unique concept: salt and honey as the leitmotif As the name already suggests, the theme of "salt and honey" runs consistently through

Eurowings now flies regularly to Hamburg from Nuremberg

Since November 4, Eurowings has been offering non-stop flights from Nuremberg to Hamburg again. The connection is offered Monday to Friday and Sundays, with an additional flight service on Tuesdays that makes it possible to visit Hamburg for day trips. The flight time is around one hour and is therefore considerably shorter than the journey time by train or car. The latter could be extended further in the future due to planned renovation work by Deutsche Bahn on the route until 2030. The new flight connection is intended to appeal to both business travelers and tourists who want to discover Hamburg's diverse winter offerings. In addition to attractions such as the Elbphilharmonie and the historic Speicherstadt, musicals such as "Harry Potter and the Missing Child" and "MJ - The Michael Jackson Musical" are on the program in winter. A harbor tour with punch in the historic Speicherstadt also offers visitors a wintery experience. Press spokesman Jan Beinßen emphasizes that Hamburg offers much more than its well-known landmarks and that regular flights now conveniently connect Nuremberg and Hamburg.

Lufthansa cancels Munich flight connections to Johannesburg and São Paulo

Lufthansa has further adjusted its flight schedules for the Munich location and is canceling two international connections next year. The newly added route to São Paulo, which is to be served three times a week with an Airbus A9 from December 2024, 350, will be discontinued again from April 2025. In addition, the Munich - Johannesburg route will no longer be served in the summer flight schedule, although three weekly flights were originally planned. The Munich - Seattle connection will also be reduced from one daily flight to three weekly flights from the summer flight schedule. These changes are part of a more comprehensive reduction in services in Munich, which Lufthansa announced back in July. The exact reasons for the decline on these routes were not given in detail, but industry experts point to the airline's increased costs and an optimized fleet deployment strategy.

Harbour Air opens new flight routes with modified Twin Otters

On November 4, 2024, the airline launched its first flight with a modified Twin Otter, which now features wheels, offering passengers new options for early morning and late evening flights. This innovative service is designed to expand existing seaplane connections while meeting the growing demand for more flexibility in air travel. Harbour Air, North America's largest seaplane company, has been serving the route between downtown Vancouver and Victoria Harbour Airport for years. However, until now, the seaplanes have relied on daylight flights and favorable weather conditions, which occasionally interrupted service. To meet growing demand from business travelers and locals for more flexible departure times, the airline has equipped two of its 19-seat Twin Otter aircraft with wheels and de-icing systems. These adaptations allow the aircraft to fly even in poor weather conditions and outside of daylight hours, making the service more reliable. Chris Fordyce, Vice President Commercial at Harbour Air, stated: “With the combination of wheeled and seaplane flights, Harbour Air will offer more daily frequencies than any other airline on this route.” This strategic decision reflects the airline’s commitment to providing passengers with an improved and more stable service, particularly during the winter months when weather conditions are often challenging. The first flight on wheels was ceremonially inaugurated by the Musqueam Nation, underscoring the cultural significance of the ceremony. The traditional land recognition and blessing of the aircraft by the Musqueam Nation elders demonstrate the airline’s deep connection to the region and its indigenous roots. These symbolic gestures were marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony at the departure gate.

Tarom plane detained in Amsterdam released after compensation payment

A plane belonging to the Romanian airline Tarom was recently temporarily detained at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport because the airline had not paid compensation to passengers. The reason for this is a lawsuit filed by a specialised debt collection company, which successfully took legal action against Tarom to demand these payments. The plane was only released after Tarom management paid the outstanding amount to the Dutch debt collection company. The crew contacted management immediately after the detention, and the compensation was paid around 40 minutes later, allowing the plane to be released. The incident underlines the increasing pressure on airlines to pay legally binding passenger compensation promptly.

Ethiopian Airlines brings first A350-1000 to Africa

Ethiopian Airlines is approaching a significant moment in its history. On November 5, 2024, it will be the first African airline to welcome the Airbus A350-1000 into its fleet. This move marks not only a technical achievement but also a strategic expansion of its position in international air transport. The Airbus A350-1000, the largest variant of the A350 family, is known for its advanced technology and efficiency. The new aircraft, which will fly from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport to Addis Ababa, will be equipped with the fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. Ethiopian Airlines will initially operate the A350-1000 on key international routes, including connections to Accra, Lagos, London Heathrow and Washington Dulles. This strategic decision underlines the airline's intention to position itself as a leading player in African and international air transport. Technical details and advantages of the A350-1000 With a total capacity of 395 passengers, including 46 seats in Business Class and 349 in Economy Class, the A350-1000 offers Ethiopian Airlines an improved opportunity to meet the demand for premium seats. Compared to other models in the fleet, such as the A350-900 or the Boeing 777-300ER, the proportion of business seats increases significantly, which is a strategic decision for the airline to attract more business customers.
