KKK-Messe Wels: True works of art in cake form
A trio of trade fairs is currently taking place in Wels, Upper Austria, all dedicated to cake, coffee and creativity. Lovers of pastries will get their money's worth here, but there are also a few things to complain about, which are particularly annoying for visitors who are not from the region. Anyone who travels to the Wels trade fair by car is of course not affected by the Upper Austrian city's questionable public transport concept. It is not that easy to get to the exhibition centre with the buses, which provide the lion's share of local public transport. There is simply no bus stop directly at the event venue, which is not exactly up to date, especially considering that one or two Austrian politicians boast about environmental and climate protection. There is also no indication in the vehicles or on the timetables that the exhibition centre is about five to ten minutes away on foot. Although the Almtalbahn offers a direct train connection between Wels main station and the Wels trade fair, the Austrian Federal Railways do not operate this route very frequently. The frequency is so low that you sometimes have to wait two hours or more for the regional train. This means that you may have to switch to the regular buses, but you should take into account that you will have to walk a few minutes from the nearest stops. It would actually be a small thing to set up special stops on existing routes during events or to provide shuttle buses from the main station. This would be particularly appropriate given that the Wels trade fair centre is not exactly small by Austrian standards.
