The Stuttgart MesseHerbst, one of the most important trade fair events in southwest Germany, is focusing on an even more diverse world of experience in 2024. A new trade fair is being launched. With the new event "Food and Fine Food", Messe Stuttgart is offering a platform for gourmets and pleasure lovers who can look forward to regional specialties, international delicacies and high-quality table culture. Bankruptcy of travel group FTI: Creditors face an uncertain future

The insolvency of Europe's third-largest travel group FTI has left a deep mark on the travel industry. While package holidaymakers have already received some compensation through the German Travel Insurance Fund (DRSF), other creditors are facing a bleak future. The first creditors' meeting in Munich revealed that the chances of a refund are slim. A total of 840 million euros in claims have been filed so far. Axel Bierbach, the group's insolvency administrator, said that considering the huge number of creditors, it could take years to examine the claims. Of the approximately 290.000 creditors reported, around 125.000 are package holidaymakers who have already received some compensation through the DRSF. Around 50 million euros have been paid out to these claimants after they submitted their applications. But for other creditors, including hotels, airlines, travel agents and banks, the outlook is bleak. Bierbach made it clear that only a small proportion of the claims could ultimately be repaid. The state Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF), which had provided financial support to FTI during the Corona pandemic, is also particularly affected. FTI filed for bankruptcy in June 2024 after a number of factors had driven the company into financial misery. In addition to dwindling confidence from customers and partners, the ongoing economic burdens caused by the aftermath of the pandemic also led to the financial collapse. Icelandair: First A321LR completes test flight

Icelandair has taken an important step with the introduction of its first Airbus A321LR, registered as TF-IAA. The first test flight of the new long-haul aircraft took place on November 19, 2024 in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. This event marks the beginning of a new chapter for the airline, which for decades had almost exclusively Boeing aircraft in its fleet. For years, Icelandair has been looking for a suitable replacement for its aging Boeing 757 fleet. After initially opting for the Boeing 737 MAX, the airline announced an order for four Airbus A2023LR and 321 A13XLR with an option for twelve more aircraft in July 321. The decision to go with Airbus not only reflects the modernization of the fleet, but also opens up new strategic opportunities for the airline. While the Boeing 757 was increasingly challenging due to its age and increased maintenance requirements, the Airbus A321LR offers a more environmentally friendly alternative with greater efficiency and range. Concrete deployment plans and future expansions The first A321LRs will enter commercial service in December 2024. Planned routes include European destinations such as Copenhagen, Stockholm, London Heathrow and Oslo. From May 2025, Seattle will be the first transatlantic destination served by the A321LR. With a range of up to 7.400 kilometers, the model is ideal for Icelandair's transatlantic hub. The Airbus A321LR is equipped with 168 seats, 22 of which are in Business Class (Saga Premium). This configuration allows Icelandair to meet demand on lucrative routes while reducing fuel costs. Argentina: Flybondi takes Avion Express into wet lease

Lithuanian airline Avion Express has taken a significant step into the South American market by entering into a wet lease agreement with Argentinian low-cost airline Flybondi. This cooperation marks a new era for both companies and represents an important milestone in the expansion of European ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services to the South American continent. As part of the agreement, Avion Express will provide two Airbus A320 aircraft to operate from Buenos Aires International Airport from the end of November 2024. This agreement runs until March 2025 and is intended to help Flybondi meet demand during the summer peak season in the southern hemisphere. Flybondi, which has previously operated exclusively with Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft, is thus integrating the Airbus A320 family into its fleet for the first time. Strategic importance for Avion Express Avion Express is pursuing a clear strategy with this partnership: to tap into the South American market with flexible capacity solutions. The company highlights the benefits of the ACMI model, which allows for seasonal adjustments between Europe and South America. According to CEO Darius Kajokas, the presence in Argentina shows the potential to open up new market opportunities for airlines. The expansion of operations in South America is complemented by plans to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in Brazil. This venture underlines Avion Express' commitment to Latin America, particularly in Brazil, the region's largest aviation market. The company plans to operate a double-digit number of aircraft in Brazil within two years, thus expanding its range of ACMI and charter services.

Kassel Airport is once again facing challenges: Turkish airline Corendon Airlines has announced that it will not continue its flights from Kassel to Antalya in the 2025 summer flight schedule. This step is a bitter blow for the already loss-making regional airport, which has struggled with financial problems since it opened over a decade ago. According to the airport, the airline's withdrawal is part of a strategic consolidation. Corendon is adjusting its offerings across Germany, which also affects other airports. The focus is on capacity reductions to ensure the stability of operations. Despite the high demand for flights to Antalya, Kassel Airport will therefore be without this important connection, which was originally supposed to be offered twice a week from April to October. Financial burden and declining attractiveness Kassel Airport's financial problems are exacerbated by such developments. As early as 2023, the airport recorded a deficit of around five million euros, which is mainly borne by the state of Hesse. The loss of the only permanently stationed aircraft by the airline Sundair and the low offer in the 2024/2025 winter flight schedule show that the airport is struggling to establish itself as an attractive location for airlines. In summer 2025, only a few regular connections remain, for example to Bolzano in South Tyrol, as well as a few special trips. Ryanair and Erasmus Student Network continue partnership
