DHL/Swiftair crash in Vilnius: Investigations in full swing

After intensive work, the Lithuanian authorities were able to clear the crash site of the crashed Swiftair plane. All of the plane's debris, including the cockpit, was transported to a hangar for examination. Smaller fragments of the wreckage were removed last week. Particularly important for solving the accident: the flight recorders, which document the last minutes of the flight. They are now in Germany, where they are being evaluated by experts from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU). The crash site shows the extent of the disaster: destroyed residential buildings, burnt-out vehicles and fields of debris dominate the picture. The residents of a damaged residential building were taken to emergency accommodation by the city of Vilnius. These people must stay in social housing for the time being while reconstruction is planned. Investigations and international cooperation The Lithuanian authorities have launched extensive investigations to determine the cause of the crash. So far there is no evidence of terrorism or sabotage. German experts from the BFU are supporting their Lithuanian colleagues on site, while Spanish and American specialists are also involved in the case. What is particularly explosive is that Swiftair, the Spanish operating company, is obliged to provide complete technical data and maintenance records for the Boeing 737. The flight and its tragedy The cargo plane was on its way from Leipzig to Vilnius and was due to land shortly before the accident. It is known that one of the four crew members died in the crash. Three other people survived and received medical treatment. Experts suspect that a technical defect or human error led to the crash, but these hypotheses have not yet been confirmed. Significance for aviation The crash raises another

Aspire Sofia: The lounge where smoking is allowed

Sofia, the Bulgarian capital airport, has set itself the goal of becoming a five-star airport. One of the ways to achieve this is by building the planned Terminal 3. There is currently a business lounge in Terminal 2. Does this already come close to the five-star goal or is there still a lot of room for improvement? Terminals 1 and 2 are currently in operation at Sofia Airport. The vast majority of airlines use T2, but low-cost airline Wizzair, for example, flies from T1. There is an Aspire lounge operated by Swissport in T2. There are no special conditions for access, as any passenger can use this facility for a fee of 30 euros. Business class passengers of certain airlines and holders of status cards from some carriers have free access. Lounge cards such as Priority Pass and Dragon Pass are also accepted. This is currently the only lounge waiting for passengers in Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport. There are therefore no alternatives and no further facilities of this kind are expected to be put into operation until the planned third departure hall is commissioned. The entrance to the Aspire Lounge is on the right hand side on the ground floor after the security check. The facility is accessed via stairs, escalator and elevator and is signposted. It is not difficult to find on site, as the entrance area is quite strikingly designed. It is precisely this design that creates high expectations. To put it bluntly: Unfortunately not, these cannot really be fulfilled and there are various reasons for this. After completing the check-in formalities, visitors can
