Wizz Air discontinues all three Salzburg routes

Wizz Air and Salzburg have a long history together, marked by an extremely short guest appearance in 2020 and many announcements that were ultimately not implemented. It was all the more surprising that Wizz Air then added London (Luton), Bucharest (Otopeni) and Skopje. But that will soon be over too. In the summer of 2020, Wizz Air surprisingly announced that it would connect Salzburg Airport with several destinations. It also wanted to offer flights to Kyiv-Zhulyany and St. Petersburg-Pulkovo. For a variety of reasons, such as unfavorable developments in the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, Wizz Air has repeatedly postponed its comeback, sometimes at extremely short notice. Ultimately, when Salzburg Airport resumed service, it added other destinations than those "originally" announced. Given the current state of affairs, it has not kept its promise for very long. As of January 10, 2025, Wizz Air will discontinue the non-stop connection between Bucharest (Otopeni) and Salzburg. The route is currently completely off sale for all subsequent dates, so the likelihood that it could be reactivated in the foreseeable future is rather low. Wizz Air itself has not released any information about this "flight schedule adjustment". But that's not all: According to the current information, the destinations London-Luton and Skopje are also to be suspended. Both of the destinations mentioned are not to be offered from the city of Mozart, at least in the 2025 summer flight schedule. Unless Wizz Air sets up alternative destinations at short notice or changes its mind regarding the cancellation of the three Salzburg routes, the city of Mozart will once again be left without any flights by the pink low-cost airline. The current

Putin apologizes after tragic plane crash in Kazakhstan

After the tragic crash of an Azerbaijani plane in Kazakhstan, in which 38 people lost their lives, Russia faced massive accusations of guilt. In a conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin expressed his regret over the incident and apologized for the tragic event that took place in Russian airspace. According to a statement from the Kremlin, Putin stated that Russian air defenses were in action against Ukrainian drone attacks at the time. However, the incident itself and the exact circumstances have not yet been conclusively clarified, especially regarding the question of whether the plane was hit by a missile. Putin also assured in the phone call that Russian investigations had been launched to clarify the exact causes of the crash. The Azerbaijani government had previously pointed to the possibility of weapons being used against the plane. According to the Kremlin, investigators from Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have already worked at the crash site near Aktau, while two employees of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office in Grozny, where the plane was originally planning to land, have also been involved in the investigation. In addition to Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj also spoke to Aliyev and expressed his condolences. Zelenskyj demanded a clear explanation from Russia about the circumstances of the incident and pointed to photos that showed the damage to the aircraft's fuselage and suggested a possible missile attack. The Russian investigations are now intended to clarify whether an accidental hit by Russian air defenses was actually the cause. The crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane caused a stir.

Condor adjusts North America program 2025: cuts, frequency reductions and uncertainties regarding Lufthansa feeder flights

German leisure airline Condor recently announced changes to its North American program for 2025, which include both cancellations and frequency reductions. This decision follows a reassessment of market conditions and competitive challenges, as well as the ongoing uncertainties related to Lufthansa's feeder flights, which play an important role for Condor. The adjustments affect several seasonal connections that will not operate as originally planned, as well as the entire flight offering for North America served from Frankfurt. As the portal "AeroRoutes" reported, Condor will no longer fly on some popular North American routes in 2025. The seasonal flights from Frankfurt to Baltimore/Washington, Edmonton, Halifax, Minneapolis, Phoenix and San Antonio have been removed from the program or are scheduled for cancellation. These measures affect not only individual connections, but also important markets that Condor has previously served in order to strengthen the North American market. On other routes, such as to Anchorage, Calgary and Seattle, Condor plans to reduce frequencies or cancel the originally planned expansion of the flight offer. Condor had regularly offered connections to the USA and Canada from these destinations in the past, with cooperations with airlines such as Alaska Airlines and Westjet opening up additional connection options for passengers in North America. These partnerships will continue, but it is not clear how the restrictions in the flight schedule will affect the total number of available connections. Shifting capacities and new destinations While Condor will be cutting back on its North American traffic, there are also some positive developments. On the routes to Boston, Miami, Vancouver, Bangkok, Johannesburg and Mauritius,

Bucharest: Dan Air now flies to Hamburg

From April 2025, the Romanian airline Dan Air will significantly expand its route network and start regular flights to nine European destinations. With this expansion, the airline is responding to the growing demand for direct connections between Bucharest and important European cities. This development marks a significant step for the still young airline and Bucharest-Otopeni Airport, which is becoming increasingly important as an international hub. Dan Air's new destinations include Dublin, Copenhagen, Larnaca, London-Luton, Turin, Valencia and Zaragoza. The focus is particularly on connections to cities with high tourist and economic relevance. The airline will also include Hamburg and Strasbourg in its flight schedule. Flights to Hamburg are scheduled to start on April 15, 2025, while Strasbourg will be integrated into the route network from April 14, 2025. Both destinations will be served twice a week. The flights will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, a proven aircraft model that is ideally suited for short and medium-haul routes. With a capacity of up to 180 passengers, the A320 offers an efficient and economical solution for the new routes. Strategic expansion in Europe The choice of the new destinations shows a clear strategy by Dan Air to focus on major European markets. Dublin and London-Luton are of great importance as hubs, especially for business travellers and the large Romanian diaspora in the UK and Ireland. Copenhagen and Hamburg, on the other hand, offer access to the Scandinavian and northern German markets, which are known for their strong economic growth. Larnaka, Valencia, Turin and Zaragoza are more aimed at tourist target groups. These cities

Stowaway on board: Security incident on Delta flight from Seattle to Honolulu

A serious security incident caused a stir at Seattle-Tacoma Airport on Christmas Eve. On Delta Air Lines flight DL487 to Honolulu, a stowaway without a valid ticket boarded an Airbus A321neo. This incident raises serious questions about airport security and control systems. The uninvited passenger managed to bypass security, passed through gate control and took a seat on the plane unnoticed. He was only discovered when the plane was already taxiing to the runway. According to Delta Air Lines, the crew immediately informed airport security, whereupon the plane returned to the gate. Evacuation and further checks To clarify the situation, all passengers were asked to leave the plane. A further security check was carried out to rule out the possibility that other people had boarded without tickets or that there was a potential danger. This precautionary measure led to a significant delay to the flight. Meanwhile, airport employees and security forces searched the terminal. With the help of video surveillance footage, the stowaway was eventually located in an airport toilet. The person was arrested and the authorities began further investigations. Background and security deficiencies How the stowaway managed to bypass the various control mechanisms is the subject of the investigation. Initial reports indicate a combination of human error and technical weaknesses in the surveillance system. Security protocols at airports are designed to detect and prevent unauthorized access at an early stage. However, this incident shows that even sophisticated systems can be susceptible to manipulation or carelessness. The Seattle-Tacoma airport administration has already announced that it will conduct a comprehensive review of its security measures. Both the video surveillance and the
