
ÖBB presents new Railjet double-decker train in Vienna
The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) unveiled the new Railjet double-decker train to the public for the first time in Vienna. At the same time, the interior of the new long-distance train was presented as a "world premiere." Among those present at the unveiling were ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä, Federal Minister Peter Hanke, and Stadler Chairman Peter Spuhler. Federal Minister Peter Hanke emphasized the extensive investments in railway infrastructure: By 2030, around 19,7 billion euros are to be invested in the expansion of the domestic rail network to ensure the continuity and modernization of the Austrian railway infrastructure. In addition, ÖBB will invest around 2030 billion euros in its fleet by 6,1. The new double-decker Railjets are a central component of these investments and are intended to offer greater capacity in long-distance traffic and a more comfortable travel experience for passengers. ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä emphasized that the new double-decker long-distance train represents another milestone in modern rail transport. The six-car Railjet double-decker train offers over 480 seats and features a low-floor design, catering areas, and a modern interior design. Passenger amenities include free Wi-Fi, power outlets including USB ports, automatic climate control, and luggage racks with NFC security. The optimized design and barrier-free boarding and alighting areas are intended to facilitate rapid passenger boarding and alighting as well as access for passengers with mobility restrictions, heavy luggage, bicycles, or strollers. The train reaches a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour and features a passenger information system with real-time information and digital seat reservation displays. A total of 14 new Railjet double-decker trains have been ordered under an agreement with Stadler.
