Lot participates in the EU civil protection programme rescEU

The Polish airline Lot Polish Airlines will play a key role in the future within the framework of rescEU, the European Union's civil protection program. The company has been commissioned to carry out air transport and medical evacuation flights, so-called MedEvac flights. For this purpose, Lot Polish Airlines maintains three specially equipped aircraft on permanent standby, which can be used within the framework of the EU civil protection mechanism UCPM (Union Civil Protection Mechanism). The agreement was concluded with the Polish government Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS), which is responsible for providing the aircraft and coordinating the flights on behalf of the European Commission. The three aircraft provided by Lot Polish Airlines include two multi-purpose aircraft. Each of these aircraft is capable of carrying at least 65 passengers or 19 tons of cargo. The third aircraft is specially equipped for MedEvac flights and can accommodate either 16 stretcher patients or six patients requiring intensive care during the flight. All three aircraft have a medium range, which enables them to reach all destinations within Europe and neighboring regions without stopovers. This ensures a rapid and flexible response to emergencies across the continent. The UCPM regulates increased cooperation within the EU in the event of disasters, for example, natural disasters, major health threats, or humanitarian crises. BER Airport expects record passenger numbers during the 2025 summer holidays

The long-awaited summer holidays begin in Berlin and Brandenburg in one week, and BER Airport is preparing for an influx of travelers. From Wednesday, July 23, to Sunday, September 7, 2025, the airport expects a total of around 3,7 million passengers. This exceeds the figures for last year's summer holidays by around 100.000 passengers, which is a clear sign of the continued high level of travel enthusiasm. To cope with the expected influx and minimize waiting times, various measures have been implemented to increase efficiency and improve service. By the start of the holidays, 20 screening lanes in Terminals 1 and 2 will already be equipped with modern CT scanners. This is four more lanes than originally planned. In Control Area 1, where the new technology has been under installation since May 2025, four of the eight lanes originally planned for the fall are already in use thanks to good cooperation. In Terminal 2, all eight lanes are already equipped with CT scanners, and screening area 5 in Terminal 1 went into operation in March of this year, which has already led to a significant reduction in waiting times. Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, expressed her delight at the commissioning of the new CT lanes, which allow passengers to leave electronic devices and liquid containers up to 100 ml in their hand luggage.
