Amsterdam-Schiphol will record six million passengers in June 2025

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol handled six million passengers in June. This represents a moderate increase of one percent compared to the same month last year, according to the airport operator. Of the total number of travelers, 3,8 million passengers departed or landed directly at Schiphol, while just under 2,2 million used the airport for connecting flights. The figures show a stable recovery in passenger traffic at Europe's fourth-largest airport, which serves as a major international hub. At the same time, the number of aircraft movements declined slightly. Schiphol recorded over 40.000 takeoffs and landings in June, a decrease of 0,3 percent compared to the previous year. Of these, around 33.000 flights were to European destinations and just under 7500 were intercontinental connections. This trend, in which passenger numbers are increasing while aircraft movements remain stable or decline slightly, could be due to the use of larger aircraft or higher aircraft utilization, which would mean more efficient use of slots. Cargo volume at Schiphol Airport amounted to almost 105.000 tonnes in June. This figure is significantly lower than in the same month last year. The airport attributes the decline to temporary operational factors. In particular, cargo transported on passenger flights (so-called belly cargo) decreased by 19 percent. This could be due to a shift in cargo capacity to pure cargo flights or general shifts in the supply chains. Air Astana changes flight times for Almaty-Frankfurt route in winter schedule

The transfer followed a maintenance stop in Dresden and suggests that the airline's ambitious plans to operate the world's largest passenger aircraft have entered a period of uncertainty, or at least a pause. On May 15, 2025, Global Airlines celebrated its first transatlantic flight from Glasgow to New York JFK, positioning itself as a new player in the luxury travel segment. The flight was operated under a damp lease agreement with Hi Fly Malta. The extensively refurbished A380, which previously flew for China Southern Airlines, carried just 170 passengers on this inaugural flight and offered a Golden Age of Travel-style experience, complete with champagne and caviar. Motel One plans to double the number of hotels to 200 within ten years

The Motel One hotel chain is aiming for significant growth. Company founder Dieter Müller announced in an interview with Handelsblatt that he intends to double the number of hotels to 200 within ten years. This ambitious plan will be made possible through a partnership with the new majority owner, PAI Partners, which acquired around 80 percent of Motel One's shares in the spring. For the first time in the company's history, Motel One is also considering hotel acquisitions for expansion. Müller commented on the growth targets: "It took us 100 years to build the first 20 hotels. I expect to achieve the next 100 in ten years." The focus of expansion is therefore on Europe and the United States of America. The concept has already proven successful in cities such as Paris, Madrid, and New York, and now greater scaling is to take place there. Munich Higher Regional Court declares Union Reiseversicherung's pandemic exclusion clause invalid

The Munich Higher Regional Court has declared a so-called pandemic exclusion clause of Union Reiseversicherung invalid. This decision is the result of legal proceedings brought by the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Advice Center against the insurer. Union Reiseversicherung had previously refused reimbursements for coronavirus-related travel cancellations or medical expenses, citing this clause. The settlement now reached obliges the insurer to re-examine all rejected cases relating to claims from 2022 or later. Those affected do not need to take any action in this matter themselves. Union Reiseversicherung has promised to review all relevant cases on its own initiative and contact the insured parties. However, if the insurer does not respond within the next four weeks, the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Advice Center advises those who actively inquire themselves. The Consumer Advice Center also recommends that those who have not yet filed a claim for insurance benefits should also check whether they are still entitled to a claim. For cases from 2021, the individual statute of limitations must be observed. The Higher Regional Court's decision affects all travel insurance policies offered by Union Reiseversicherung, whose terms and conditions included the pandemic exclusion. This includes, among others, travel cancellation, trip interruption, and international health insurance policies. The court justified its decision by stating that wording such as "no insurance coverage exists for damage caused by pandemics" or similar clauses was not sufficiently transparent. This lack of clarity prevents consumers from clearly identifying their entitlement to benefits, particularly in times of crisis. The ruling, although a case-by-case decision, is likely to send a signal to other insurers in Germany. It shows that pandemic-related exclusions do not have to apply across the board, and that insurance terms and conditions must be formulated in a way that is understandable to consumers.

Construction work at the “Deutsches Eck”: Restrictions on rail traffic on the Westbahn

From August 2 to 17, 2025, Deutsche Bahn InfraGO will be conducting construction work in the area known as the "Deutsches Eck," which will have a significant impact on Westbahn train services. This will particularly affect connections between Salzburg and Tyrol, as well as between Salzburg, Munich, and Stuttgart. Westbahn has already informed its customers in advance of the upcoming changes to minimize inconvenience. From August 2 to 10, 2025, Westbahn train services to and from Munich and Stuttgart will be diverted. Trains will run from Wels via Passau. This means that the following stops will be cancelled: Attnang-Puchheim, Vöcklabruck, Salzburg, Rosenheim, and Munich East. However, passengers will have the option of boarding and disembarking in Passau; tickets for these can only be purchased on the train. Those in possession of a climate ticket can register on the train using the Relax Check-in and travel to Passau. The diversion will increase travel times by 10 to 40 minutes. A further restriction affects Westbahn trains to and from Innsbruck and Bregenz. From August 2 to 17, 2025, there will be no train service between Salzburg and Kufstein via the Deutsches Eck. A rail replacement bus service will be set up for these connections, transporting passengers between Salzburg and Tyrol. Such rail replacement services are a common means used by the railway to ensure passenger mobility despite construction work, but they can lead to longer travel times and transfers. The construction work at the "Deutsches Eck" is necessary to modernize the infrastructure and maintain the performance of the railway line.
