German airports reported subdued passenger figures for April 2026. The domestic market segment remains the problem child of the German aviation industry. In April, only 1,73 million passengers used flights within Germany, representing a 15 percent drop compared to the previous year. This sector thus reached less than half of its 2019 volume. The week-long strikes by pilots and cabin crew, as well as the temporary suspension of operations by the subsidiary Cityline, left a deep mark. Internationally, there is also a clear shift in tourist flows. Due to the uncertain situation in the Gulf region, as well as in Egypt and Turkey, travelers are increasingly opting for destinations in the western Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. Hungarian airline Wizz Air expanded its route network at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in the summer of 2026, connecting the German capital directly with the Romanian city of Timișoara since May 21, 2026. Overall, Wizz Air increased its available seat capacity from BER by approximately 90 percent compared to the previous year, underscoring the strategic importance of Berlin for the airline's growth plans. This capacity expansion is driven by the group's aggressive growth strategy, which now sees it operating a fleet of over 260 aircraft. The latest ÖHV Holiday Radar, a representative survey conducted by the Austrian Hotel Association in cooperation with the market research institute Reppublika, predicts a significant upswing in tourism for the upcoming Pentecost holiday. Of the more than 1.000 people surveyed, 30 percent indicated they have a firm holiday plan, while another 19 percent are considering a last-minute decision. This means that general interest in taking a break over the holidays is higher than last year. At the same time, the percentage of those who definitely intend to stay home has fallen from 57 percent last year to 51 percent. Walter Veit, President of the ÖHV, sees this development as an opportunity for accommodation providers to reach the still undecided group through quick response times and uncomplicated booking systems. When it comes to choosing destinations, domestic travel remains the preferred option for the Austrian population. Almost two-thirds of travelers plan to spend the Pentecost weekend within Austria, while 36 percent prefer a trip abroad. Within Germany, Styria, Salzburg, Carinthia, and Upper Austria top the popularity rankings. Industry analyses also show that the demand for short trips has grown structurally in recent years, as the combination of holidays and weekends offers optimal time slots for regional tourism. The hospitality and retail sectors in rural areas, in particular, benefit significantly from this concentration of travel activity into just a few days. A detailed look at the demographics of travelers reveals significant differences between age groups. Those aged 15 to 29 exhibit the highest affinity for travel, with almost 40 percent of them planning a trip for Pentecost. In contrast, older generations, especially those aged 60 and over, show a lower propensity for travel.

Securing the flight connection between Münster/Osnabrück and Munich for the winter of 2026/27

FMO Managing Director Andrés Heinemann emphasized that maintaining these frequencies represents a clear commitment by Lufthansa to the airport. The findings highlight the unpredictability of atmospheric disturbances in tropical convection zones and the resulting massive mechanical stresses on the aircraft structure and passengers. Flight History up to the Onset of Instability: The Boeing 777-300ER, registration 9V-SWM, was cruising at 37.000 feet (FL370) when it entered Myanmar's airspace. This was the stage of the flight when the cabin crew had already begun preparations for breakfast and many passengers were waking up. At 07:44:52 UTC, the flight recorders recorded a routine request from the pilots to air traffic control. Due to weather conditions, the crew requested a course change to bypass certain waypoints and take a more direct route over the sea. However, air traffic control assigned the aircraft an alternative course change toward waypoint DWI. At this time, nothing in the conversations during the flight indicated any instability.

Group CEO Hamad Al-Khater emphasized the resilience of the organization, which is supported by a workforce of approximately 57.800 employees worldwide. A key pillar of this economic success remains the cargo division, Qatar Airways Cargo. With a transport volume of 1,43 million tons and a global market share of 12%, the company maintains its position as the world's largest international air freight provider. To secure this growth in the long term, the group has finalized one of the largest fleet orders in aviation history. Agreements with Boeing and GE Aerospace include the acquisition and maintenance of up to 210 aircraft and 400 engines. These investments aim to further increase capacity at its Doha hub and expand its technological market leadership, for example, by equipping its wide-body fleet with Starlink internet. The airline's operational excellence was recognized internationally on several occasions last year. For medium-haul flights to destinations between 2.500 and 6.000 kilometers away, the tax rate will be reduced from the current €39,34 to €33,01.
