
Summer begins at Lake Wörthersee: Lidos in Klagenfurt open for Pentecost visitors
With rising temperatures over the Pentecost weekend in 2026, the Klagenfurt municipal lidos will begin their regular summer operations. Forecasts for Carinthia promise dry, high-pressure weather, prompting the operators of the Klagenfurt, Loretto, and Maiernigg lidos to fully ramp up their infrastructure. In addition to the traditional sunbathing lawn on Lake Wörthersee, the service area at the main Klagenfurt lido has been restructured this season. A central rental shop near the entrance now offers sports equipment such as stand-up paddleboards and table tennis equipment, as well as loungers and parasols for daily rental. To reduce waiting times at the ticket counters, digital ticketing systems are being used more extensively, with online purchases being cheaper than those at the traditional ticket office. Accessibility to Lake Wörthersee has improved significantly with the full commissioning of the Koralm Railway. Since the completion of this high-speed line, travel times from Graz and Vienna have been drastically reduced, making Klagenfurt an increasingly attractive destination for day-trippers and weekend visitors. From Klagenfurt's main train station, Klagenfurt Mobil GmbH ensures frequent bus service to the lake shore, with lines 4, 10, and 20, as well as the City Line C, serving as the main feeder routes. This improved transport connection is part of a regional concept to solidify the state capital's position as a central tourism hub in southern Austria and to efficiently manage visitor flows.
