Customs found a total of 3.240 cartons of cigarettes in eight freight shipments sent from Hong Kong to the United Kingdom at Cologne / Bonn Airport. According to the main customs office, these were hidden in music boxes that were also fully functional.
In a press release, the authority writes that the “tax damage prevented is just under 130.000 euros”. The cigarettes were confiscated. The music boxes were addressed to various private individuals in the United Kingdom. The smugglers' undoing was that the "hot goods" were reloaded in Cologne / Bonn and checked by customs.
