With the 9H-NEE, Air Malta has taken delivery of its fifth Airbus A320neo. It is the first machine to wear the revised livery from the factory. In return, the A320 with the registration 9H-AEQ will be phased out.
The delivery flight from the Airbus factory in Toulouse to Malta International Airport was operated on a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend and was piloted by Captain Patrick Calleja and First Officer Mark Attard. This was Captain Calleja's last flight with Air Malta after more than 31 years with Air Malta.
The new 9H-NEE was delivered with a new modern livery designed in collaboration with Airbus SA. This less expensive livery picks up the colors and elements of the Maltese flag, making it instantly recognizable as the national airline of the Maltese Islands.
While the carrier is celebrating the arrival of the latest aircraft, the airline's future is unclear. So far, no green light has been received from Brussels for the subsidy intended by the government. A start-up is being worked on in the background. This could also replace the sister company Malta MedAir.
