Air India announced the introduction of a new airline code for the Indian airline Vistara on October 18, 2024. From now on, all Vistara flights will be operated under the code "AI 2", instead of the previous code "UK". This change comes ahead of the planned merger of Air India and Vistara on November 12, 2024.
The new code "AI 2" serves to preserve Vistara's identity despite the merger. Air India stressed in a statement that customers can continue to expect the same service, fleet and employees. It also pointed out that the merger of the two airlines will create the second largest airline in India after IndiGo.
Singapore Airlines, the current co-owner of Vistara, will hold approximately 25,1% of the shares in the new Air India Group. As part of the merger, Vistara customers' loyalty points will be transferred to Air India's Flying Returns program. From the beginning of September 2024, no more bookings can be made with Vistara for travel after November 11, 2024. Flights already booked will be operated by Air India under the new code "AI 2".
