Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Technik introduce mobile warehouse management system

Austrian Airlines, together with Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services (LTLS) in Vienna, has put the mobile warehouse management system AMOSmobile/Stores into operation.

The solution developed by Swiss Aviation Software (Swiss-AS) was implemented in a phased approach, with the first step activating the modules for warehousing and inventory management. The system is fully integrated into the existing Amos infrastructure, which is considered the industry standard for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO). By using a unified database, the need for additional interfaces is eliminated, reducing the potential for data transmission errors and increasing process speed.

The introduction of this mobile technology enables technical and logistics personnel to access real-time data directly at the point of operation, such as in the hangar or spare parts warehouse. This includes precise insights into the status of order picking and current inventory queries. Industry experts point out that optimized parts availability is crucial for minimizing aircraft downtime during maintenance intervals. Lufthansa Technik Logistics Services at its Vienna location acts as the central service provider for the Austrian national subsidiary, ensuring the supply of critical components for the entire fleet, which includes Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

Later in 2026, the project partners plan to gradually expand the system's functionality. Additional modules are intended to increase efficiency in further logistics areas and advance the digitalization of ground-based maintenance processes. The parent company, Lufthansa, already uses similar mobile solutions at several international locations to harmonize collaboration between the group's various maintenance units. By recording inventory movements directly via tablet or handheld device, the administrative workload for mechanics is reduced, freeing up more resources for the actual technical work on the aircraft.

The decision to implement AMOSmobile/Stores underscores the trend in the aviation industry to replace paper-based documentation with digital, real-time systems. For Austrian Airlines Technik, this means closer integration with the logistics flows of the Lufthansa Technik Group. Since spare parts inventory in aviation is extremely complex due to stringent safety regulations and specific certifications, an integrated software solution offers seamless traceability of every component. This is crucial not only for daily flight operations but also for compliance with international regulatory standards set by aviation authorities.
