Austrian Airlines has closed the first half of 2025 with an improved result. Adjusted EBIT rose by 31 percent to minus €43 million compared to the same period last year, although the company continues to struggle with losses. Revenue increased by 10 percent to €1,2 billion. In total, the airline carried 6,6 million passengers, representing a slight increase of one percent.
The Chairwoman of the Board Annette Mann emphasized that Austrian Airlines had significantly improved in terms of reliability, punctuality and customer satisfaction. However, the geopolitical situation in important core markets, especially in Middle East, and the unfavorable conditions in Austria are having a significant impact on profitability. The 23 percent increase in arrival and departure fees in Austria alone, as well as above-average inflation and high collective bargaining increases, have had a negative impact on costs.
In the second quarter of 2025, Austrian Airlines achieved a profit with an Adjusted EBIT of 68 million euros, representing an increase of 13 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. This demonstrates that the company operates more profitably during the peak travel months. The airline has also added new destinations such as Ivalo, Edinburgh, the Lofoten, Sylt and Burgas to expand the service and meet demand. The twice-daily connection to BangkokThe airline’s operational performance was honored by passengers: At the renowned Skytrax Awards Austrian Airlines received the awards for “Best Airline Staff Service in Europe” and “Best Cabin Crew in Europe”. COO Francesco Sciortino emphasized the importance of this direct feedback from passengers. Despite the challenges, Austrian Airlines remains committed to significantly exceeding its 2024 annual results. The airline continues to plan major investments, such as the planned expansion of its long-haul fleet with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and the conversion of the short- and medium-haul fleet with new aircraft from Airbus A320-family. In addition, 35 million euros are earmarked for new lounges at the Vienna hub and over 10 million euros annually for digital customer services.
