In summer 2025, Austrian Airlines will expand its route network again to meet the growing travel needs of its customers. The red-white-red airline will offer new attractive destinations aimed particularly at holidaymakers who want to escape the summer heat.
Michael Trestl, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines, explained: "Last summer, demand for destinations in the cooler north increased significantly. In line with this trend, we will be flying to three 'cool' new destinations in summer 2025: Edinburgh, Sylt and the Lofoten Islands."
Edinburgh: A cultural jewel
From June 3, 2025, Austrian Airlines will fly three times a week from Vienna to Edinburgh. The Scottish capital, which offers a particularly varied program of festivals and cultural events in the summer, is a popular destination for city trips. The city, which has a population of almost half a million, offers an impressive mix of history, culture and architecture.
The famous Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracts numerous tourists every year. Highlights such as Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and the annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe make the city a unique experience. The temperate climate with cooler temperatures, a refreshing sea breeze and occasional rain showers ensure pleasant conditions for exploring the city and its surroundings.
Sylt: Glamour on the North Sea
From June 28th to September 6th, 2025, Sylt, the popular German North Sea island, will be served by direct flights from Vienna. Sylt is not only known for its 40 kilometers of fine sandy beaches, but also for its high glamour factor. The island attracts holidaymakers who are looking for both relaxation and a vibrant nightlife. In places like Westerland and Kampen, there are numerous exclusive restaurants and bars that invite you to linger. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to a wide range of water sports activities, while the fresh North Sea air invites you to take long walks on the beaches.
The Lofoten: Pure nature in the far north
Austrian Airlines will also fly to the Lofoten Islands in Norway, a true natural paradise that will be accessible every Friday from May 30 to August 29, 2025. The archipelago is known for its stunning scenery, consisting of dramatic fjords, majestic mountains and picturesque fishing villages. The Lofoten Islands are a destination for travelers seeking outdoor adventures. Hiking, fishing and kayaking are just some of the activities that await visitors here. The tranquil and unspoiled nature attracts nature lovers and photographers from all over the world who want to experience the unforgettable views and unique wildlife.
Burgas: Discover the Black Sea Coast
Another new destination in the 2025 summer flight schedule is Burgas, an up-and-coming city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Austrian Airlines will fly from Vienna to Burgas three times a week from June 19, 2025. The city is known for its extensive parks, beautiful beaches and lively seafront promenade. The annual "Sand Sculpture Festival" in the Sea Garden in particular attracts numerous visitors. With its cultural offerings, including museums and theater performances, Burgas offers an interesting combination of relaxation and entertainment.
Diverse summer offer for travelers
With the new destinations in summer 2025, Austrian Airlines will offer a total of 104 destinations on short and medium-haul routes, supplemented by 18 long-haul destinations. Michael Trestl points out that Austrian holidaymakers particularly prefer Mediterranean destinations.
To meet this demand, the airline offers 19 destinations in Greece, twelve in Italy, ten in Spain and four in Croatia. Long-distance travel is also on the agenda: Austrian Airlines operates direct connections to cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Cairo. The airline also plans to expand its connections to the Middle East, including to Amman, Tehran and Tel Aviv, provided that geopolitical conditions allow this.
