On February 8, 2024, there was a tragic death on board the Airbus A773 with registration D-AIML on Lufthansa flight LH380 (Bangkok-Munich).
One passenger was not feeling particularly well before departure, which is why he had himself examined by a doctor. He was of the opinion that the 63-year-old German citizen was fit enough to take the flight. But during the flight his condition suddenly deteriorated: the traveler initially spit blood.
The cabin crew administered first aid and immediately called for a doctor. Despite the intensive efforts of the doctor who happened to be on board, the passenger's death unfortunately had to be confirmed. The captain then decided to return to Bangkok. The long-haul plane was able to touch down safely there and the Thai authorities took over the body.
Lufthansa confirmed the incident, but declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding the spitting of blood reported in the Thai media. In any case, the local public prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation, which is generally usual in such cases. According to reports, the doctor who declared the passenger “fit to fly” will also be questioned after the autopsy.
