Basel-Mulhouse Airport will begin preparatory work for the runway renovation on September 23, 2024, which is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026. The work, which will not impact flight operations, includes the establishment of a construction base, grading work and the construction of driveways, as well as the installation of traffic lights to control traffic flow.

The entire preparation period will last six months, with the actual execution work taking around four months. The construction base will be built on agricultural land and is to be restored to its original state by 2027 at the latest. The main runway at EuroAirport will be completely closed for around one month in spring 2026 due to the renovation, as already announced in November 2023.
