The three Bavarian commercial airports recorded growth in passenger and flight movements of around 5 percent each in the first half of this year. According to the State Office for Statistics, the total number of passengers at the locations increased Munich, Nuremberg and Memmingen by 4,9 percent.

Munich Airport, the state's largest commercial airport, achieved growth of 3,6 percent to 19,8 million travelers. Nuremberg Airport recorded significantly stronger growth at 10,3 percent, while Memmingen Airport in the Allgäu region achieved by far the largest increase of all three locations at 14,7 percent, thus confirming its position as a growing location for low-cost airlines.

In addition to passenger traffic, cargo volume at the three airports also increased by 7,5 percent to a total of 162.000 tons. This development reflects the continued recovery of air traffic after the coronavirus crisis, although growth is slower domestically than internationally.
