Braathens Regional Airlines ends scheduled operations in favour of an ACMI contract with SAS

The Swedish regional airline Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA) will cease its scheduled passenger operations from Stockholm Bromma at the end of 2024.

Instead, BRA will fly for SAS Scandinavian Airlines under a seven-year ACMI contract from 2025. The contract is worth around SEK 6 billion (approximately USD 590 million). The reason for the decision is the continued low demand in the Swedish domestic market.

BRA will position itself as a specialised ACMI and charter operator and plans to increase its fleet and staff. The airline currently operates 12 ATR72-600s on scheduled flights and will operate for SAS from January 2025, mainly from Stockholm Arlanda and Copenhagen Kastrup. The cooperation is intended to improve Swedish infrastructure and strengthen connectivity between regional and international destinations.
