Bridge days: How to use vacation days cleverly

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Experience shows that most employees plan and book their vacation for the entire year in the first few weeks of the year. In order to get the most travel time out of the available vacation days, the tour operator Alltours advises taking public holidays into account in the planning and making clever use of bridging days.

Simply relax briefly in a wellness hotel or take a city trip with a bridge day. In 2024, for example, Ascension Day on May 9th, 2024, the Day of German Unity on October 3rd, 2024 and Reformation Day on October 31st, 2024 are ideal. By using just one day of vacation, an extended weekend of four days is possible every time.

Good Friday and Easter or Whit Monday and Corpus Christi are perfect for planning a long-distance trip to the Caribbean or Asia. If you include these holidays in your vacation planning, you can get 16 days off in a row by using eight vacation days each.

Christmas and New Year will be absolutely employee-friendly in 2024. Because all public holidays fall on a weekday. If you're lucky enough to only have to work half a day on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, you'll get twelve days off with four days of vacation.
