On Friday, March 08, 2024, a sports aircraft crash-landed at Innsbruck Airport and was coming from Switzerland to land at Tyrolean Airport. According to initial findings, there was a technical defect in the chassis area.
A 66-year-old pilot was supposed to transfer the twin-engine plane to Innsbruck. Although he tried several times to extend the landing gear, he was unable to do so due to a technical defect. This resulted in a crash landing, which resulted in the small aircraft skidding over the only runway at the Tyrolean airport.
Both the pilot and the co-pilot were able to leave the plane uninjured. There were no other passengers because it was a so-called ferry flight. The plane is badly damaged. The exact cause of the accident has yet to be determined by the Austrian aviation accident investigation authority.
In any case, the accident, which fortunately was minor and occurred around 16 p.m., meant that the slope was closed for about two hours. A plane coming from the British capital London was diverted to Munich. The airport fire department was on duty with several vehicles and also helped with the necessary rescue of the small aircraft. The runway was then checked and the Tyrolean airport went back online around 00 p.m.
