Budapest Airport, part of the global Vinci airport network, has announced a significant expansion of its routes for the coming 2024/25 winter season. With ten new connections and a total of 8,6 million available seats, the hub is reaching an unprecedented capacity - an increase of almost 20 percent compared to the same period last year. This marks a historic high and underlines the growing importance of the airport as a European hub.

The new destinations reflect a diverse offering that is attractive to both business and leisure travellers. One of the outstanding new additions is an easyJet route to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, which responds to the strong demand between the French capital and Budapest with four flights a week. Thanks to Air France, which already offers 21 weekly flights to Paris, Budapest has become one of the most important hubs for French destinations. Overall, capacity on connections between France and Hungary increased by an impressive 38 percent.

In addition to the expansion into France, the airport is also expanding its Italian offering, which now exceeds the number of connections to the United Kingdom. A total of 13 Italian cities are now served, including popular holiday destinations such as Genoa and Salerno. This route is served by Wizz Air, which has also opened new connections to Marrakech, Memmingen, Girona and Gran Canaria to expand its portfolio of city break destinations. Ryanair is adding Toulouse and Warsaw-Modlin to the route network, thus expanding the connections to major European cities.

The connections to Marrakech and Gran Canaria are particularly noteworthy, as they offer Hungarian travellers a warm climate and an exotic flair in winter. Marrakech, located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, attracts with oriental charm and a rich culture. Gran Canaria, on the other hand, known for its sunny beaches and diverse nature, is an attractive choice for holidaymakers who want to escape the cold winter.

The airport also offers long-term connections to Asia, such as the daily flights from Shanghai Airlines to Shanghai and Air China to Beijing. These long-haul routes expand the choice and are intended to boost business tourism in particular, as they build valuable bridges between Europe and Asia.

According to Máté Ritter, Head of Airline Development at Budapest Airport, the airport aims to meet travelers' increasing demand for more choice and flexibility. The additions to the flight schedule reflect Budapest's growth and importance in international air traffic. At the same time, the capacity expansion will contribute to further strengthening tourism and the local economy.

By strategically expanding to include new destinations and increasing seating capacity, Budapest Airport is making a clear statement and establishing itself as an attractive hub for tourists and business travelers from all over Europe and beyond. The airport is thus proving to be a growing center that responds to the needs of modern travelers and further enhances the location for international air traffic flows.
