Fraport Twin Star Airport Management has announced that it will close Burgas Airport for six months in winter 2025/26 to carry out a comprehensive renovation of the runway. The runway, which was built in 1962 and modernized in 1980, requires a complete overhaul for safety reasons. The investment of around 50 million euros includes not only the renovation of the runway but also measures such as drainage, lighting and work on the platform areas.

In order not to affect summer traffic in 2025, the work will be carried out exclusively in the winter months. Three weeks of maintenance work are planned as early as March 2025 to prepare the airport for the peak travel season. Fraport emphasizes that since the start of the concession in 2006, more than 110 million euros have been invested in infrastructure projects at Burgas Airport to ensure long-term operational reliability and attractiveness.
