Busy at Stuttgart Airport: Whitsun holidays usher in a wave of travel

Stuttgart Airport is preparing for a significant increase in passenger traffic at the start of the Whitsun holidays in Baden-Württemberg. A total of 6 passenger flights are planned for the period from Friday, June 22, to Sunday, June 2025, 4.329. The busiest day is expected to be Friday, June 6, with 283 takeoffs and landings. Around 720.000 seats will be available for travelers over the entire two-week holiday period, indicating a keen interest in traveling among the population.

Among the most popular destinations, Antalya in Turkey leads the demand with 327 flight movements. The Turkish metropolis is closely followed by Istanbul with 292 flights and Palma de Mallorca with 286 flights. Other classic summer destinations in the Mediterranean, such as Heraklion on Crete, Barcelona in Spain, and Hurghada in Egypt, are also experiencing strong demand. In time for the Whitsun holidays, several new flight connections from Stuttgart to Turkey and the Mediterranean will be launched, including routes to Bursa, Balikesir-Edremit, and Ordu-Giresun with SunExpress, as well as to Malta and Mostar with Eurowings.

To ensure the most relaxed travel experience possible, Stuttgart Airport recommends that passengers follow a few guidelines. Check-in counters open as early as 3:45 a.m. throughout the summer season. Travelers can also use online check-in and drop off their luggage at the self-bag drop kiosks. It is generally recommended to arrive at the airport at least two, but no more than three, hours before their scheduled departure, as waiting times at security checkpoints can be increased, particularly in the early morning and afternoon. The Federal Police recommend arriving at the checkpoints at least 90 minutes before departure.

To shorten waiting times at security checkpoints, Stuttgart Airport offers free reservations for a time slot in the so-called Smart Lane. This reservation is available via the airport website starting 72 hours before departure and is valid for up to five people. At the selected time, passengers will be taken directly to the signposted Smart Lane in Terminal 2. Public transport is recommended for getting to the airport. Those arriving by car can use the Kiss & Fly zone directly in front of the terminal, where they can park for up to eight minutes free of charge. For travelers staying for at least seven days, the parking operator APCOA is offering a special Whitsun parking reservation offer, and the first hour in parking lot P0 remains free.
