If a travel agency where you booked a cruise goes broke before you even start your journey, it can be complicated for passengers. However, the organizer is liable if you have paid to a travel agency authorized to collect.

The Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor looked after a 46-year-old from the Linz-Land district, who had problems even though he had paid for his cruise in full. Aida Cruises claimed to have never received any money from the travel agency. This slipped into insolvency proceedings between booking and full payment and departure.

Christoph E. from the Linz-Land district booked a cruise on an Aida Cruises ship with a travel agency in 2020. Although he didn't have to, he immediately paid the total amount of 2.400 euros to the travel agency, which went bankrupt just three months later. Due to corona, the 46-year-old was unable to start his vacation trip. So he booked a new cruise for August 2021 – directly with the tour operator Aida Cruises.

The man was quite astonished when, two weeks before departure, the company again demanded the sum of 2.400 euros, which he had already transferred to the travel agency a year earlier. Reason: Aida Cruises had not received payment from the customer from the travel agency. In desperation, the 46-year-old sought help from the Chamber of Labour, which immediately pulled out all the stops to enable the man to take part in the long-awaited cruise.

Finally, the man's payment receipt from 2020 was found with the help of the insolvency administrator and sent to Aida Cruises. Just in time! The 46-year-old received his travel documents one day before departure and was finally able to enjoy his cruise
