There is a change in management at Lake Constance Airport Friedrichshafen. Detlef Schäfer, who has served as Head of Business Development at the airport since September 2024, will be appointed Chairman of the Management Board with immediate effect. The current sole Managing Director, Claus-Dieter Wehr, who has led the airport for ten years, will remain a member of the Management Board and will oversee the transition until his planned retirement in May of next year.
Detlef Schäfer has extensive management experience in the aviation industry. Prior to joining Lake Constance Airport, he held positions at Air Berlin, Berlin Brandenburg Airport, and most recently Amazon Air in Leipzig. With his appointment as CEO, he will assume an even more central role in the management of Friedrichshafen Airport.
Martin Buck, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Friedrichshafen GmbH, expressed his positive opinion of the personnel decision. He was pleased to have recruited Detlef Schäfer, an experienced aviation industry expert who understands the perspectives of both airlines and airports. According to SWR, observers suspect that the airport's financial difficulties and declining passenger numbers may have played a role in this decision. Schäfer's previous task was to attract new airlines to the location and establish new connections.
