Cologne Bonn Airport is approaching its peak travel season. With the start of the Easter holidays tomorrow, Friday, the airport expects a significant increase in passenger traffic. Between April 11 and 27, more than 485.000 passengers are expected to be handled. This represents an increase of approximately 14 percent compared to last year, when the Easter holidays were earlier and partly coincided with the less busy winter flight schedule.

The busiest travel days are traditionally expected on the weekends. Around 87.000 passengers are expected for the start of the holidays this coming weekend alone. The airport is anticipating almost 120.000 travelers over the Easter weekend itself. The busiest day of the entire holiday period is expected to be the last Sunday, April 27, with over 33.000 arriving and departing passengers. Sunny destinations in the Mediterranean are particularly popular with travelers, led by Spain with around 124.000 and Turkey with 123.000 expected passengers. Italy, Egypt, Portugal, Greece, and Great Britain are also very popular. The top individual destinations are Antalya and Palma de Mallorca, each with around 60.000 travelers, followed by Istanbul with around 41.000 passengers.

To accommodate the increased passenger volume and enhance travel convenience, Cologne/Bonn Airport has invested in recent months in optimizing processes and expanding digital offerings. Ryanair customers can now also use the self-bag drop-off stations in Terminal 1. Furthermore, the option to book time slots for security checks via the online portal "CGNGateWay" has been extended to up to 100 days before departure. The dining options in the terminals have also been expanded with new restaurants and bakeries. Travelers without checked baggage will benefit from the reopening of the hand baggage exit in Terminal 1, which provides a faster route to the parking garages and the train station. The airport recommends that passengers prepare well for their trip, use online check-in, check the validity of their identification documents, and allow sufficient time for processing.
