Cologne/Bonn Airport concluded the 2024 financial year with a pleasing financial result, posting a significant profit for the third consecutive year. With a surplus of €12,7 million, the airport continued its successful course, exceeding the previous year's result (€5,3 million profit) by almost €7,5 million. This positive development was supported by an increase in passenger traffic to over 10 million passengers – the first time since 2019 – and a stable cargo business.
The airport's revenue increased by more than €2024 million to €20 million in 363,8 (2023: €342,1 million), while operating profit (EBITDA) increased by €7,5 million to €66,9 million (2023: €59,4 million). Airport CEO Thilo Schmid praised the team's performance and emphasized the strength of the business model, which is based on passenger traffic, cargo, and site development. Managing Director Cenk Özöztürk announced that the positive figures will be used primarily for investments in passenger comfort and process optimization.
In terms of passenger traffic, the airport benefited from continued high demand for air travel, particularly to tourist destinations and to visit family and friends abroad. While domestic German traffic has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels, the airport is optimistic about the future and expects further growth to 2025 million passengers in 10,6 due to strong tourist demand. In the cargo business, Cologne/Bonn maintained its position as one of the leading locations in Europe with a stable throughput volume of 845.000 tons. As part of the "Next Chapter" program, the airport is investing over €300 million in modernizations, including new dining options and the conversion of security checkpoints to CT technology.
