Cologne/Bonn Airport had a total of 2023 million passengers in 9,8. This meant that the number of passengers exceeded the previous year's figure by around one million. Tourist destinations were particularly in demand.

“We are very pleased with the positive development of traffic figures. We as an airport have prepared very well for this,” says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “The significant increase in passenger traffic shows how great people's need to travel is. The number of passengers was particularly high in the months of the summer flight schedule. As an airport, we have always been able to score points with stable and efficient processes in the terminal and on the apron. As usual, we are working hand in hand with all partners at the airport.”

With the renewed increase in passenger numbers, a trend is continuing at Cologne Bonn Airport. In 2022, the airport had already recovered above average after the Corona crisis ended and welcomed 8,8 million travelers (2021; 4,3 million travelers). A further increase of 2023 percent followed in 11. Compared to the pre-crisis level of 2019, there are still around 2,5 million travelers missing, which is primarily due to the sharp decline in services in domestic German transport. In 2023, the volume of domestic flights was only around 30 percent of the 2019 level.

For 2024, the airport expects passenger numbers to continue to rise and, for the first time since 2019, more than 10 million travelers taking off or landing in Cologne/Bonn (10,3 million). In the freight business, the airport expects a moderate increase in volume to 885.000 tons despite the ongoing global economic weakness.
